I got my first ticket from a police officer and I am grateful!!! - Here's why!

I made a mistake while driving to a market, I misjudged a traffic light which almost cost me my life. I take full responsibility for my actions and the consequences of my mistake. I also had a personal reflection on social media creators who argue against laws and measures put in place and how they rarely admit to being at fault.

I want to give you a recent mistake I made that could have cost me my life!

I was driving from Fairview Montego Bay to go get groceries at the Charles Gordon Market. I was driving a car where the AC was not working and the windows were going down but they were not coming back up properly, so I left it up. I just left my mom at Fairview and was heading around to the market in the scorching hot sun and feeling ridiculously miserable combined with the extra weight on my body that makes me feel like I am in the sun.

Looking back it was a drive of no more than 10 minutes, but the additional 50 lbs that I gained made me the DEFINITION of being hot and miserable. I was trying to get out of that car as quickly as possible.

Anyways, I normally study the stoplights in my parish however, this stoplight right to turn into the market from the highway, I misjudged. I misjudged everything now thinking back as I am writing this blog. I saw the police car from I left Fairview and was in traffic heading up to my final destination, I also saw the truck but the only thing I did not count on was the light taking so long to change. I thought the light was going to change in the next 5 seconds, child, was I wrong!!!!!

The light didn't change for the next 60 seconds and then I tried to get across but there was so many cars coming down on the highway, I had to try to get back in place to wait my turn. I had seen the taxi men did it so many times and I thought I could make it and did I mention there was a loaded truck right behind me? He was heading straight on the highway and I was in his way. That was why I was trying to get across and then realized I couldn't.

The truck was blowing its horn at me and I don't get nervous on the road (and no, no matter what is going on, never get nervous while driving, it could cost you your life or someone else's life) but I was trying to make a calculated decision as to what I should have done. It seemed like a lifetime, but all of this was happening within 30 seconds. I don't know why but the thought of me continuing on the highway and turning was so far out of reach and might have saved me the ticket money but I tried to reverse in the line to go right.

Remember the police car I mentioned that I said I saw?

Yeah..

While I was reversing, I saw it come out of the line and pulled up directly behind me and a woman shouted for me to turn right and pull over. Lights flashing and all of that.

Nah, I felt like a criminal fr.

I wanted to get out of the car asap so when the officer came, he was asking me a lot of questions and I just told him to give me the ticket so I could go because I honestly was not in the mood for the talking or explaining myself in the hot sun.

This was the first time in all my life that I have ever gotten a ticket. I got it paid and I moved on but I remember thinking that I was especially grateful for the ticket because I saw how I could have lost my life. The police officer even said, "Why are you trying to k1ll yourself? The truck could have hit you out the way" The oncoming cars could even crashed into me and I felt bad because my parents would never recover if I died because of foolishness.

I could have died because of one mistake, one bad judgment call.

I take full responsibility for my actions. Within the week the ticket was paid because why would I argue it in court?? I was wrong!!!

On social media, I see a lot of creators who come on to fight against the laws and measures that different institutions put into place but how many times can we count where they have admitted that they are at fault? Last year, (or the year before, IDK I've lost track of time) I came across a video on my #fyp page where a young lady was scantly dressed and she went to a restaurant and they told her she could not enter their establishment in that outfit and she went on a rant saying she was being discriminated against but she was in fact dressed way too revealing for that setting regardless of if she is coming to spend her money or not. The establishment had its rules, you have 2 choices,

#1: Abide or

#2: Go somewhere else

All I am saying is, we need to take more accountability where it is REQUIRED. In some cases, it may save your life.

Final Thoughts:

In conclusion, my mistake while driving to the market has taught me a valuable lesson. I am grateful for the ticket that I received because it alerted me to the possibility of danger and now I am aware that a single poor judgment call can result in serious consequences. I accept full responsibility for my actions and will travel with greater awareness and caution. Additionally, I want to remind others of the significance of adhering to traffic laws and regulations to guarantee their own and others' safety while driving. Last but not least, I want to remind people to admit when they are wrong and take responsibility for their actions.
