How Nature Makes Life Feel Whole Again

Finding Peace, Calmness and Wholeness in Nature

By Nkwenkwezi MgebisaPublished 4 days ago 2 min read
In the quietness of nature, I found myself.

In the midst of nature is where I find peace.

I can relate to its beauty; it makes me feel as though I’m standing close to heaven. The landscape is incredible. I’m able to focus on what’s in front of me; whether it’s the river, the trees, or the chirping birds. Yet my peripheral vision allows me to stay rooted in one spot while witnessing every angle of this amazing setup.

If I knew how heaven looked and felt, I would confidently say it looks and feels like nature and no one could tell me otherwise. The quietness, the calmness, and the natural sounds from the birds, the wind, and the flowing river make me believe that nature truly resembles heaven. I find peace hidden within nature, and through that experience, I become whole again.

If people were made to believe that nature heals, I can only imagine how often we would spend our time immersed in it, searching for restoration. Healing from heartbreak. Healing from poverty. Healing from grief. Healing from childhood trauma.

Such healing would be an incredible gift, one found simply in the presence of nature.

There is something deeply grounding about being surrounded by nature that modern life often strips away from us. In a world that moves too fast, where noise is constant and expectations are heavy, nature asks nothing of you. It doesn’t demand productivity, explanations, or perfection. It simply allows you to exist. And in that allowance, something inside you begins to soften.

When I am in nature, time feels different. Minutes don’t chase each other. Hours don’t feel wasted. There is no pressure to be anywhere else or to become someone else. I am present, fully present and that presence alone feels like healing. It’s in those moments that I realize how much of our suffering comes from disconnection: from ourselves, from stillness, and from the natural rhythm of life.

Nature reminds me that growth doesn’t happen in chaos. Trees don’t rush. Rivers don’t force their way forward. Birds don’t question whether they are enough. Everything moves with intention, patience, and purpose. Watching this teaches me lessons I didn’t know I needed, lessons about trusting timing, embracing stillness, and allowing life to unfold naturally.

There are moments when I sit quietly and listen, truly listen to the sounds around me. The wind brushing through leaves. Birds communicating in their own language. Water flowing without resistance. These sounds don’t compete with each other; they coexist. And in that harmony, I find clarity. It becomes easier to hear my own thoughts, to separate what truly matters from what doesn’t.

In those moments, I feel myself returning to wholeness. The fragmented parts of me; shaped by stress, disappointment, and expectation begin to realign. Nature doesn’t erase pain, but it gives it space to breathe. It offers a safe place where grief can rest, where heartbreak can loosen its grip, and where hope can quietly re-emerge.

I often think about how different our lives would be if we treated nature not as a luxury or escape, but as a necessity. If we truly believed that healing could be found beneath trees, beside rivers, or under open skies, perhaps we would seek it more intentionally. Perhaps we would spend less time running from ourselves and more time returning to what grounds us.
