How I Created Buy Me A Coffee Page to Earn Money
Buy Me Coffee to monetise your skills in multiple ways.
A few years ago, Medium introduced a tipping option to support the creators who were not eligible to enrol in the Medium Partner Program. That was the first time I got introduced to platforms like Buy Me A Coffee, Ko-fi, and Patreon.
However, for a long time, I considered this option didn't work, and I didn't bother to activate the tipping option.
One day, I think of exploring the platforms and how they work. I explored and got to know that it's not only Medium's tipping option. Even if my Medium readers don't support me through the tipping section, there is still much space.
Buy Me A Coffee itself is a complete platform and is not only limited to tipping.
I also learned from and was inspired by the stories of BMC creators and how they make money.
How a platform can work for you depends on your creativity and strategy.
How did I create a Buy Me A Coffee page to monetize my writing and skills?
Of course, first I signed up with an email and put my page name that was already selected.
I am not using it only for tipping. I am going to use all its features.
Customizing my page

I chose my cover colour purple because somewhere I heard that purple is many colours. And my content and pages are all about making a living online. Also, I like this colour.
However, there is nothing to do with colours. It's just a personal choice. And it depends on what you want your page to look like.
I created a simple cover with Canva. I might change it later and make it more appealing.
The customisation is done. It was that simple.
Creating membership

One of the attractive features of this platform is membership. This means your supporters support you on a monthly or yearly basis by selecting their favourite membership.
You can create multiple memberships.
I have created three basic memberships with different prices so that my supporters can choose a membership at their convenience.
Buy Me a Coffee Shop

Of course, my purpose in using this platform is to monetise my skillsets. Then, how can I skip this opportunity?
There are six options under the shop button.
- Start from scratch—you can sell what you want. It could be service or anything else.
- Digital products—courses, digital art, or any digital product.
- Instagram close friends access — I don't know what it is.
- Zoom call—for consultation or lectures.
- Ticket for an event—I haven't had much idea about this as well.
- Physical good—a product that requires physical delivery.
What option am I using?
I am using three options for this feature.
- Starting from scratch to sell my skillsets.
- Digital products to sell courses.
- Zoom call for consultations.
Blogging on Buy Me a Coffee
This is the best part because you can directly build a supporter community through the platform.
I'll be blogging on Buy Me a Coffee.
What is the strategy? It's simple. I'll post articles on a daily or weekly basis. Or it might be possible that what I wrote for my Medium or Vocal.media blog, I will publish on BMC too.
Also, there is an option for an image post. So, some posts might be in visual forms.
Referral program
BMC also has a referral program. A few years ago, it was a bit different. It worked in a way that you get rewarded for writing a post about BMC. I noticed now it's updated, and it works differently.
I do not have any plan for promoting it. However, I have activated the Medium tipping option with my page link.
But if one is more into referral programs, they can promote via a blog or social media platforms.
Final thought
The reason why I am attracted to BMC is that it's an all-in-one platform. Along with allowing your readers to support you, you can use the platform in multiple ways. You can become a blogger. You can start a digital business. It could be a platform for consultation. Or it could be a freelance site.
The platform is versatile like me. So, like attracts like.
