History of Chettinad Group

Chettinad group of companies, a small seed laid in 1912 by Dr. Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar, has now spread its roots wide across various public domain service sectors. In the past few years, this brand name has burgeoned in industrial, infrastructural, educational and health care facilities all over India. With an intention to provide world-class standards at an affordable price, we want our economy to be substantially improved as well.

Our inclination for a better industrial and business developed society helped us travel this far. Having passed on across three generations of family members, the management remains consistent in providing constant good service to the people. Because of the ardent efforts put by the team and the management, this centennial old organization has excelled itself in all the fields undertaken. From Dr. Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar to the current Managing Director, Mr M.A.M.R. Muthiah, this team has shaped to a full grown Banyan tree, providing shade to the people in need. Speaking of the managing directors, Mr M.A.M.R. Muthiah is a pillar to this organization. Since 2000, this organization is travelling the path envisioned by Mr M.A.M.R. Muthiah. This ambidextrous man has further enhanced the quality of the brand to ensure it is the best in the market today. His position as the Madras Race Club chairman further throws light on his spectacular leadership qualities. He believes that a fresh approach towards India's education system will uplift the quality of the education system here. With better education comes better understanding, thus comes the best output in anything that we do. With exposure to his venerable industrial Chettinad family, he grew up to become one of the finest industrialists in India. His quality as a proactive planner and his flair in managing things has given him a hand in establishing few more branches of this esteemed organization. Cement:

The cement business was established in 1962. The wet process cement plant at Puliyur near karur was our first cement plant. The quality of our cement in itself sets an example for the best cement in the market. With us toiling towards better quality, our cements became favorite among the masses. The growing love for our cement directly led to the proliferation of our cement branches.

Logistics

Connection is something crucial in today's era. It is an important factor, helping us stay inline with one another. An area with developed transportation facilities provides us with easy access to the resources in that area and helps us stay connected to the public there.

With this in mind, Chettinad Logistics Pvt. Ltd., Lorry Division was incorporated in December 1999 within the Chettinad Group. The logistics sector was brought to life in April 2000.

The main focus of this sector was to provide transportation across South India to help Business and Industrial units as well as Power Utilities stay connected to their resources. As the cargoes Import and Export grew in Southern India, our branches grew as well.

Health Care

A building for the General Hospital at Chettinad Health City campus was laid above the base of ‘Healthcare for All’. This 24/7 multi-speciality hospital is located at Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road). This building houses 1150 beds with elite doctors. The best part is the world-class healthcare facilities to the public without any bias.

Construction:

Chettinad Builders Private Limited is the construction division of Chettinad Group. The firm has been involved in various construction activities.

The construction activities can be bifurcated into construction division and Ready Mix Concrete division. The construction division takes care of the construction activities of Industrial structures of Cement, Steel, Sugar, Cogen and Port development activities and also high rise and high end Residential Flats , Institutions, Health Centers, I.T. buildings and Commercial complexes.

Education

To raise the industrial standards of the society, the quality of education of that locale needs to be raised first. Having this in mind, the group established Chettinad College of Engineering and Technology at Puliyur in Karur District and an institution for higher learning in medical and paramedical sciences under the name of Chettinad Academy and Research Institute (CARE).
