"The Devil Wears Prada (The Devil Wears Prada Musical) is a 2006 cult film directed by David Frankel, based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger. The world of fashion, power, splendid clothes, but also personal tensions and challenges are at the heart of this film that has left a mark on contemporary cinema. The sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is coming out in 2025-2026, with scenes also filmed in Milan, promising glamour, style, and dreamlike settings right in the heart of Italian fashion."

Plot of the original film

Andrea “Andy” Sachs (Anne Hathaway), an ambitious young university graduate with little interest in fashion, gets a job as the second assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the feared editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine Runway. Andy soon finds herself facing impossible demands, continuous pressure, and personal sacrifices. The film narrates her journey, between professional growth, moral dilemmas, and the realization that the seemingly glossy world often has invisible costs.

The Devil Wears Prada: Trivia The original film is based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger, who had a real-life experience as an assistant at a fashion magazine, from which she drew inspiration for the character of Miranda Priestly. The role of Miranda was initially supposed to be played by Glenn Close, but she refused the role. Many famous top models, stylists, and brands participated with clothes, cameos, or original designs (Valentino appears as himself; Gisele Bündchen is involved).

The Sequel and Filming in Milan & Brera With The Devil Wears Prada 2, the production returns in grand style, and Milan is chosen as one of the key cities for filming. Here is what we know so far:

Main Dates and Locations

Filming in Milan is scheduled between October 8 and 18, 2025.

Areas involved: Brera, the Quadrilatero della Moda (for glamorous settings), central streets of Milan, Palazzo Parigi (a 5-star hotel in the heart of the city) as the production base.

Specific Scenes: A large scene with approximately 900 extras set in Brera; casting of about 2,000 extras over 30, preferably with experience in the world of fashion/design/communication.

“Spectacle” Moments

During Milan Fashion Week, a scene was filmed at a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show, with Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly sitting in the front row next to Stanley Tucci. A spectacle in the true sense of the word, merging cinematic fiction with real fashion events.

Night scenes set in locations such as Via Filodrammatici, Piazza della Scala, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the Galleria's Octagon, which enhance the visual appeal thanks to the lights and the Milanese atmosphere.

Milan as a Film Location Milan is not simply a scenic backdrop: it represents a symbol of style, high fashion, architectural excellence, and urban aesthetics. The fact that The Devil Wears Prada 2 chooses Brera, the Quadrilatero della Moda (Via Montenapoleone, etc.), Palazzo Parigi, and iconic city landmarks like La Scala or the Duomo, is not only an aesthetic choice—but also a narrative one: Milan becomes an additional character, a catalyst for emotions, glamour, and the contrast between reality and dream.
