The renowned Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar has talked about a treasured item. Speaking with Star Sports, Gavaskar disclosed that the IPL 2023 shirt he had signed with MS Dhoni is kept in a secure place.

New Delhi, Mar. 7: Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar expressed his respect for former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and took delight in having an IPL shirt signed by the legendary player.

Gavaskar, who has been a longtime follower of Dhoni, reminisced about his special encounter with the player and how he treasures the autographed keepsake.

Gavaskar declared that he has always been a Dhoni fan and that he respects the player's play style, demeanor, and conduct both on and off the field.

"I've been a fan of MSD's ever since I saw him perform live. What is the desire of a fan? The fan wants to talk to and meet his hero in person, as well as try to get a signature and take a picture with him.

Gavaskar praised Dhoni for his poise and underlined his excellent behaviour both on and off the field. He also stressed the value of role models in sports.

Being a good role model means that you have an obligation to act honorably toward everyone and to provide a good example for others. He also makes a fantastic role model. I went to him and asked him to sign my shirt because of his gracious demeanor, and I'm glad he agreed to do so. I still proudly keep my jersey at my home," Gavaskar continued.

Furthermore, Gavaskar has been celebrating because it was on this day, March 7, 1987, that the little maestro became the first cricketer to reach 10,000 Test runs. Gavaskar is currently doing commentary for the fifth and final Test against in Dharamshala.

Cutting a cake and sharing it on X, he celebrated that momentous occasion in style in the commentary box. Gavaskar commented, "This is great, I want to thank BCCI for remembering this day... reaching the 10,000 mark on March 7th." Additionally, it appears that the stats guy informed me that this was the day I achieved my first half-century in Test cricket as I arrived at the communication box. It's amazing that BCCI remembered this and sent me a beautiful, delicious cake as a thank you."

It's not just for me or Ashwin; it's a truly special day for Indian cricket when R Ashwin plays his 100th Test match. I hope we play another Test match after this one.
