After going missing for two days, a nine-year-old girl's body was found in a Puducherry drain. There were ropes tying her hands and legs together.

After the girl vanished on Saturday while playing, her parents, Narayanan and Mythili, made a fruitless attempt to locate her. They then reported the girl missing to the police, and teams were set up to find her.

But two days later, the girl's lifeless body with her wrists and legs bound was discovered dead in a drain close to her home.

Tuesday, close to Solai Nagar in Puducherry, the body of a nine-year-old girl who vanished last Saturday after going outside to play was discovered in a drain near her home.

Tuesday afternoon, the girl's body was discovered by the police a few meters from her home, inside a drain close to Ambedkar Nagar, wrapped in a cloth. Her feet and hands had been bound.

Sources claim that two persons, ages 19 and 59, have been taken into custody by the Muthialpet police in relation to the girl's death, and that they are currently conducting more inquiries.

The government primary school student, a Class 5 student, reportedly left her home on Saturday and never returned, according to the authorities. Her parents and neighbors filed a report at the Muthialpet police station on Saturday night after searching for her for hours without success.

After assembling specialized search teams and reviewing numerous CCTV clips from the surrounding region, the police were able to verify that the girl had not left the town. Tension in the community was caused on Monday when the girl's family and neighbors mounted a road roadblock, citing police inactivity.

Soon after, hundreds of locals congregated close to the tower clock, sparking a small altercation between the public and the police.

The mob refused to leave despite the police's and the local MLA's assurances, which resulted in a heated standoff between the police and the public. Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), stationed in Puducherry ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election, were called in to stabilize the situation. A few demonstrators were taken into custody, and traffic was controlled.

The victim's relatives complained to the police four days ago, but they did nothing to identify the body, they stated on Tuesday while speaking with media. The demonstrators stated that their kids wouldn't go to school because they were afraid of the crime. They organized rallies and pushed the police to start punishing the offenders severely.

Later, the girl's body was brought to the JIPMER for a post-mortem examination.

On Tuesday, locals and the girl's parents protested near Muthialpet crossroads, calling on the police to step up their probe. Along with members of the Central Industrial Security Force, police were sent in to maintain law and order.

According to police sources, two individuals had been apprehended. "We are interrogating the suspects, and will get a clear picture during interrogation," the sources continued.

In order to take action to apprehend those responsible for the girl's death, independent lawmaker Prakash Kumar submitted a memo to the director general of police. Additionally, he desired the installation of CCTV cameras throughout Muthialpet.

Protests erupted shortly after the body was recovered, with residents blocking roads and calling for the accused to be arrested right away in order to protect women and children.
