Everywhere in the UK is terrible according to British people
Is the UK that bad or are the people out of touch?

When you come to the UK, one of the first things you'll notice about the people is that many of us hate living here. Or at least we say we hate living here. You may have seen this without coming over; it's everywhere online.
As someone who doesn't like living here... I hate hearing most of the complaints. I don't like living here for different reasons than most. Most people I speak to here hate it here due to things like the weather or the fact that they believe every town and city is a shithole.
If you want to know a secret, many of the people who shit on a place have never even been there. It's all based on rumours, stereotypes and the determination to keep certain people down.
The worst aspect of the UK is the mentality of the people. In most other categories, the UK is better than most other countries on the planet. People here have a serious case of "the grass is greener".

How much does the UK actually suck?
The UK does suck in a few areas. To put things into context, there are many other countries that suck in the same ways. It's not a UK problem, it's a global problem. Before you think the UK is the worst place on the planet, you need to understand the context of the planet.
For example, I don't rate our politicians. It's not a particular party; it's most of them I see. We've had prime ministers come and go in the country for a decade. But if you ask the people of most countries, they don't like their politicians either.
Do other governments do some things better? Yeah. But we do certain things better than them. No country is perfect, and whilst some of your problems would go away if you left, different ones would appear in their place. It all depends on what you're willing to put up with.
Other areas we suck in are:
- Inequality
- Economic growth
- Wages
- Immigration
- Housing
- Employment
- Racism and ignorance
This might be a concerning list to some, but there are many countries with similar issues.

What does the UK do well?
The UK does a lot of things well, and it gets overshadowed by the moaning. Some countries might look nicer and have better architecture, but they're not fun places to live. Many people from those countries come here, in fact.
Many people here struggle to enjoy anything and take for granted their ease of life. I don't know many other countries that have the variety of food available here.
Things we do well:
- You can go almost anywhere and be safe
- Free healthcare
- We have one of the biggest economies in the world
- Sports (Not always playing them, but I love the sports culture)
- Cultural events
- Politeness
- Ease of travel

Are people right to complain so much?
It's hard to tell people they can't complain, as everyone has the right to think and feel how they want. People overexaggerate how bad the country is due to the culture. People complain because they're British, and that's what we do.
Many of the complaints have no substance to them, and the constant nature of them can make your ears bleed.
People lack some perspective and understanding of what's important. A lot of people complain for superficial and selfish reasons. For example, people hate it here due to the weather, and although we all like nice weather, it isn't everything.
People seem to think architecture is an important factor in what makes a country good. Yes, I'd prefer nicer-looking buildings, but I'd take the UK over many "pretty" countries any day. Some of these countries are hiding ugliness behind their Roman architecture.
We also have plenty of places that look nice. Some people should get out more. A lot of the complaining is caused by ignorance of the country. People still believe stereotypes that haven't been true in decades.

Is the grass greener elsewhere?
For some people, it is, but for others, they were living an ignorant fantasy. Some people connect with other countries better, and that's fair enough. They were looking for their tribe, and they couldn't find it in their home country.
People have this belief that if they lived somewhere else, their life would be perfect. But that's not true for most of us. Our lives are our lives for many reasons, but when you move, you'll find that your life will be pretty similar at its core. You will be you no matter where you go.
Where we live does make a difference, but we don't have to move to the other side of the planet to be happy. I've moved several times in my life, and I can say the UK can change quite drastically over a short distance.
For most people here, your life sucks due to who you are as a person. Moving to Dubai or Australia won't change the fact that you need to work on yourself. You'll be dumb, poor and lazy in the sun. Until you accept accountability for who you are, you'll life will never change.
