Does Racial Discrimination exist in Canada??

It's hidden underneath the dirty welcome mat thats at your front door. It holds all the secrets of those who hid behind their lies. It could be your neighbour, Mom, Uncle, Grandmother, Grandfather, your close friend, your manager/supervisor. You would never know because they hid it so well. Until you catch them slipping.

I remember when I applied for my very first J.O.B at GARAGE clothing store, you know that store that plays all the new pop music and you find your self singing along and forgetting what you walked into the store for. Yea that one! I remember getting my interview in the hall way in the mail with strangers walking past me and giving me strange looks while the manager at the time was asking me the usual interview questions. I remember getting the hired after the interview and getting a short tour of the store.

Everything seemed good so far until, my 4th shift. I overheard over the headset that "we have an Alexia (Alexia = a THIEF 😱👀) in our store and to keep and eye on her so she doesn’t steal our merchandise". Little did I know my manager was racial profiling a young group of black girls and using her bias against them. Right away I walked up to the young ladies and I made sure I gave them the best customer service possible. My manager was very upset that I did so, which made her give my sale to the cashier. My Manager was definitely a Karen. The second encounter was when my manager said yet again "We "HaVe aN AlExIa iN oUr StoRe aNd tO kEeP aAd EyE oN hEr So ShE dOsEn'T sTeAl, wHaT eVeR yOu Do DoN't MaKe It LoOk ObViOuS." SMH! 🤦🏾‍♀️😤 But this time it was Native mother and her teen daughter. I was very Lividly I spoke to one of my co-workers about what my manger said and my co-workers response was "maybe she did steal before, and theres nothing we can do about it". I walked away from her and walked straight towards the customer, as we walked around the store and I was recommending clothes and accessories; the mother mentioned to me that this is the best service she has ever gotten in this mall. She mention that she usually gets followed throughout the store and accused of stealing, which makes it a very unpleasant experience. Which causes her not to want to shop there again! That's when I said the same thing happens to me too. 😔😒😥

I was accused of stealing extra Small Leggings 👀👀👀👀👀 Now I'm Curvalicous, aka slim thick thick okay, you get me on this one right! so I was on my 20 minute dinner break eating my little delicious salad bowl from a healthy place in the mall, and this new coworker came to back room and went ran straight into the washroom now, I was thinking lord Jesus please be with her maybe she has the bubble guts or has to pee real bad.... She was also in there for a long time too so I assumed the following above. However she came in the backroom wearing blue jeans and when she came out she was wearing black leggings. 👀👀👀 I guess she was finished her shift because she was gone. Dipped right out there and vanished. I mentioned this to my manager (aka Karen) at the time and my manager didn't care nor believe me until she found the tag in the washroom. 👀👀 Then accused me of stealing because I was on a 20 minute break. Kmt. Are you serious, Do I look like I wear an extra small or be-able to fit into it. Not even my right pinky toe could evah fit in dat. Than all of a sudden my manager was light umm NiceeNikki wheres your receipt for your outfit I don't see it in the receipt box. (My manager kept second copies of receipts for some werid reason, so theres proof of every outfit you purchased). My response was I don't have my receipt I bought this 4 months ago but I'm sure I have my receipt at home.

Manager: Bring it Tomorrow for your next shift

Me: Umm okay that fine

Co-workers: 👀👀👀👀

Next thing you know my manager was like we need to hire more people of colour to make the store more diverse 👀👀👏🏽👏🏽 its about time because ... I'm the only Black girl working here, there was Asian girl working there too she was very welcoming me to and she slayed for the Gods for every shift # Inspiration* 😍😍 she did that..

My Manager: I hired a new person that will be working with you today, she will be the second manager of this store...

Me: 👀 When will she start, and what's her name?

My manager: Her name is Suntel.

Me: 🙃

New Manager walks in:

Co-workers: talks in their head "She’s BlAcK" 😳

Me: Ginning 😁😄😄😄 FINALLY!!!!

Also me: Welcome to the TEAM!!!!!

Co-workers: Where are you from

New Manger: You mean what is my nationality --- Trinidadian🇹🇹 and Jamaican 🇯🇲

Me: 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Because I'm Grenadian 🇬🇩..... Work about to become a better place to work now

By the way it didn't take too long before the my manager(aka Karen) accused the new manager of stealing clothes 👀👀 my new manager cussed her out and found her receipt in the receipt box. Kmt. My new manager and I had a discussion and This is when we both were talking about quitting.

Last but not least was when my manager told me that my box-braids were not professional hair style to wear at work and I won't make any sales. Kmt... Excuse me! She has some nerve now... -"insert Kiss teeth noise"- My hair doesn't define or take away from the excellent work I put in. My hair has nothing to do with how successful I am. 3 weeks later, I come back to work with a weave and my manager ran up to me and PUT HER HANDS IN MY WEAVE TRACKS and said " WOW your hair looks so much better down "👀 🤡😒 " I couldn't believe she thought it was okay to just reach out and put her unclean hands in my hair. Eeeeeeeeeeeeee excuse me, Please don't touch my hair that is very inappropriate, I am not a pet. Why do Caucasian people have a passion with wanting to touch black peoples hair🤣🤣🤣🤣 we are not one of Joe Exotics pets. Like girl get it together Karen.

My new manger Quit first, then I quit shortly after........I'm so Glad I quite working there and started working for a different retail store but unfortunately turned out to be the exact same 😒😒😒.

People love to deny and say oh systemic racism isn't something that happens in CANADA!! But don't pay any attention or call out the ones who are displaying this horrible disgusting behaviour. I hope someone reads this and thinks twice on what they would do in these situations. And by the way that manger was also inappropriate by flirty with co-workers and she would watch girls climb on latter and look at their booty. Absolutely disgusting. Don't worry she was fired because someone exposed her to head office.
