Deep Dive Into My Preferences
Now which ones to choose

My apologies Subhi Najar (Medium writer) for my tardiness in responding to your latest Deep Dive. I’m currently on holiday so of course my writing has suffered, but I’m finally here.

Now onwards and upwards, here are my choices:
1. Yesterday or tomorrow, and why?
Yesterday is done and dusted and the necessary lessons hopefully learned, but tomorrow is full of endless possibilities and I love knowing that anything can happen tomorrow. Tomorrow is not set in stone like yesterday, so I can dream big, be anyone I want to be and make the future happen. Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life.
2. Prose or poetry, and why?
Poetry has always, and will always, be my first love. Poetry has saved my life, my sanity and been my best friend for most of my life. It has helped me deal with trauma, rocky emotions, loss and grief. Poetry has celebrated with me, loved with me and helped me dream in ways I could never imagine, and most importantly, Poetry has never let me down.
3. When you are into reading, are you into science or literature, and why?
I’m a lover of the imagination as opposed to facts, so I guess that would make my preference literature, when choosing something to read. I can escape into imagination, whether that be my own or someone else’s. I love to become lost in a world that isn’t real, that can never exist but is possible in anyone’s imagination.
4. In love, do you prefer a red rose or a gift, and why?
I prefer the gift of time from those I love. Time to honour each other and time to make unforgettable memories. Time is more precious than anything and when gifted by a love one it is the ultimate blessing. A rose will eventually die but memories will live on forever.
5. If you can choose, is it for you to climb summits or deep dive in the ocean, and why?
The ocean has always held a special meaning in my heart. The waters of life awash a soul clean, gifting it with the opportunity of rebirth. Mother Nature fills her seas with the most exquisite of animal life and in her waters miracles abound.
6. If the day is 25 hours long, how would you like to spend the extra time, with friends and family or by yourself, and why?
The extra hour a day would be best with family, both blood and non-blood. Making memories, sharing stories, freedom through laughter and spreading love. The world would be a better place if we all did this for one extra hour a day.
7. Cappuccino or hot chocolate, and why?
A cappuccino a day would be my guilty pleasure and to be honest if it was my only vice, that would not be a bad vice to have. The creamy smoothness of the frothed milk, the sprinkling on top of chocolate and the energised kick from the coffee — what more could you ask for?
8. Normal reading or fast reading, and why?
Reading should be a pleasant pastime, a time to relax, escape from the hectic world, and bliss out. Therefore, take the time to read at a relaxing and peaceful pace, savouring every word and nuance gifted by the author.
9. New or classic novels, and why?
The classics are well known, well loved tales but I love the endless possibilities of new stories. The modern day imagination in a fast paced world that helps us escape and dream. Tales unexplored and unimagined until you read the pages of that particular tale’s story.
10. We all change with time. Which version of yourself do you like most, and why?
Tomorrow’s version of me will always be the best version of me because it’s currently a blank slate, an unknown even to myself. The mystery of who I could possibly be is enticing and the challenge of who I’ll become is exciting. Yes, I’ll take tomorrow’s version every single time.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
