Back Home and Looking for a Job
Counseling (Cool, Not Boring) to Cope with This Task
Hello, this is my first writing try! In advance, English is my second language, so if you read something weird it's just me trying to be cool, as I am still learning the expresions of American youth.
Let's get to the main purpose of this article, and here are some tips for when you're back home (recent graduate) and looking for a job.
I'm going to start with the cool stuff and then I'm going to say the obvious and boring phrases your mom tells you, I know, but you need to get it in your head anyway.
I hope at least one of my tips would be useful for you.
- Click on the youtube URL above, and you will listen to a live channel called: "Lofi Hip Hop Radio 24/7 🎧 Chill Gaming / Study Beats." It will help you a lot to concentrate or even feel better.
- Get some coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate (lots of it!) while you're sitting in front of the computer. Take adavantage of this cold weather. And if you are somewhere it isn't cold, hydrate! Anywhere you are, drink lots of water.
- Apply for a job (part-time) at your local community. You will feel a lot more productive and will be able to save some money. Part- time or temporary jobs are the better options, because you can use the rest of your time to keep aplying for a job on your field.
- Be optimistic. However, if you don't get a part-time/temporary job, please for the love of god, don't get frustrated! and do not let anyone get you frustrated. Believe me, you are not wasting your time. You can find a lot of ways to feel more productive (reading a book, cooking, helping cleaning your home). As long as you keep working hard, and looking for a job becomes your full-time job, finding one would be easy, believe me!
- Be Realistic. It would be great to start as recent graduate on a great company, with a great salary, with a great company pool you can use! But, you have to start looking first for decent jobs, with a decent salary, with no pool or gym. You know the magic words: "find your passion." (Your passion may be to get really rich, but in this case we are focusing on that one job that will make you feel happier, okay? Let's go on).
- Don't compare to anyone. You know what I'm talking about.
- Set a goal. For example: "I want to find a job by Febraury, no matter what." Those set-up goals, could be changing depending of new situations arriving to your life. Don't feel bad about it.
- Don't let anyone tell you what to do. You are the only one that tells you what's next. If people don't like it, that's their business. Don't feel like you owe something to anyone, and don't feel bad for them (like, don't say this: "Oh, I'm dissapointing them. How awful." Those people may have the best intentions for you, and think they might have already figured out the best for your life, and they probably mean well. However, if it just isn't what you really want to do, well, thank those people, and continue doing what you think is best for you. There is absolutely no way you are going to fail if it's really what you want for your life.
- Apply for jobs that you know you'll be happy working at. How can you possibly know that? Well, visualize yourself in that company, doing that job description you just read, and if you are not 100 percent sure of applying, just don't! Look at the company reviews, salary, distance from the place you will be living at, etc.
I know times are hard, and you desperately need the money, but if you go back to point number three, if you desperately need money, well that's what part-time/temporary jobs at your local community are for. Save all the money you can. I mean, you will find the way to survive!
