Are We Being Priced out of Life?

What the hell is happening with the cost of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING at the moment!

Here in the UK we are told by our trustworthy and corruption free government, the current rate of inflation is around 3.8%.

Now while I’m no Banker, I believe this should mean the prices of things have gone up by an average of 3.8% since the previous year.

How lovely and simple they make it all sound.

But I’m afraid you will have to excuse me. Because without sounding like a simpleton, or what my government might call ‘fiscally challenged’ I think the inflation figures they have reported are … well … quite frankly …

TOTAL BULLOCKS!

Take a simple jar of honey for example …

Now when I say honey, what I actually mean is one of those jars of honey you get in your favourite cheap grocery store. The honey you buy for your family that has feck all to do with bees and more about some weird syrupy stuff that looks like honey, but actually isn’t (didn’t you know?)

Well just two weeks ago, I shamefully bought a jar of this ‘horror honey’ and it was priced at 0.75p

So yesterday I was in the store again (God, my life is so dull) and just before I was about to launch another horrid honey jar into my trolley and smash my eggs, I noticed something had changed …

Firstly, they had changed the honey from being in a glass jar to a plastic one (is this better for the environment in some way? Surely not!)

But then the real shocker …

The price of the honey had gone up from 0.75p to £1.00

That’s 25% extra!

In a week!

Now if it were just the honey, it may in fact be possible for my government to lie their way out of this as usual and just call it a ‘fiscal matter.’

‘The honey may have gone up 25% in this particular case, but you are not figuring in the bigger fiscal landscape as a whole.’ They would say in a monotonous tone.

Well I can tell you this for sure. It’s not just the bloody honey that’s more expensive …

It’s everything!

Week by week EVERYTHING is going up dramatically in price and not just by 3.8%

My rent seems to go up 10% per year! As does my car insurance. My food bills. My dentist bills and even my kids school meals!

It is actually getting to the point of being terrifying. Because if it continues like this for much longer, literally no-one is going to be ok (apart from the government of course!)

It seems more and more of us are going into debt just to survive. What we could afford to live off five years ago is no longer affordable now. I hate to be the voice of doom, I really do. But this current situation of real life inflation will not end well for many of us. We are in rather a pickle!

So what can we do about it?

Well, when it comes to money. Absolutely nothing. Because our governments don’t actually care about anyone but themselves. If they did, we wouldn’t be in this mess now.

But thankfully, money isn’t everything …

I believe there will soon be a moment when we realise how much we need each other. Communities will begin to form and we will turn our backs on consumerism. We will start to share things, help one another and be more understanding. When this happens, those in power will realise the error of their ways. For without us they will not survive!
