The rain taps lightly against my small apartment window, as I look out onto the borough of Brooklyn, sipping my herbal tea. A gloomy day it was, and quite chilly, yet I’m happy that my plants are getting what they need. But I, on the other hand, was not; I needed inspiration for my story. Maybe the rain would wash away my brain fog; to bring forth clarity for the next day. Perhaps I should meditate or do some yoga to collect my creativity despite the weather; it’s only 11:11 am and I have more than enough time. Suddenly my highest self speaks.
I need to journal.
BZZZ BZZZ, BZZZ BZZZ
In the midst of my morning contemplation ritual, I am interrupted by my phone vibrating. I pulled it from my robe pocket to find that it was a random number going across my screen. The same random number that had been calling me for three days now, three times a day at least. “Third time's the charm.” I could hear my grandmother say. May she rest in power. Maybe there will be some great changes on this third day of it happening.
My attention was on the triple fives in the sequence . Ironically, I’ve been seeing these numbers quite often, and If you know numerology then you know there is much significance with this number sequence; as it commonly represents change, growth, expansion. For the good, or for the bad? However it may be interpreted by the individual. Though, there is no good or bad, there simply just is.
I decline the call and continue my routine.
On the kitchen table was my cat Luna grooming herself and beside her, my little black notebook; my book of shadows as I like to call it. My LBNB.
In it were many journal entries, spiritual tips, and pages of affirmations; a complete mind dump, but for growth in all aspects of my life. It’s the next best option, besides a therapist which I cannot afford at the moment. I start jotting down my thoughts, realizing there is more to write than what I anticipated. It usually works like that.
I sit and begin to write my affirmations.
Money comes to me in expected and unexpected ways.
Money comes to me in expected and unexpected ways.
Money comes to me in expected and unexpected ways.
I am in alignment with the frequency that is abundance.
I am in alignment with the frequency that is abundance.
I am in alignment with the frequency that is abundance.
I am trusting in the universe.
I am trusting in the universe.
I am trusting in the universe.
Being in college and trying to start your own business is definitely easier said than done; it takes money, effort, dedication, and time… times three. All I have is my dedication, and effort...Not as much time as I would like though. Needless to say, I need a little extra assistance from the universe to manifest the means to help my business grow. And in addition, since I had gotten this notebook, I had noticed that I was manifesting minor yet significant things; from money to acts of kindness. I had to pay a whopping $1,500 for my chiropractor, and weeks later I won $2,000 from submitting a poem online. And maybe, just maybe I really am that good of a writer. The rest went towards priorities of course. There was also that time I needed to get from the side of Brooklyn I was on in time for an interview in Manhattan. A man payed for my cab when I was short a few bucks, so I could get there on time. I hold gratitude for that guy. But fortunately, I decided the job wasn't for me after all.
I have since realized, that the frequency we send out is what we get back. The gift of the universe.
After journaling I close my notebook and head into the kitchen. On the fridge I see the note that I wrote to myself, to go back to the bookstore to get a few books. Any books. I read all of what I had already, and I was craving more. Besides, I wanted to see Gabriel again, the owner. He is an older gentleman, who holds so much wisdom, and always radiates this aura of light and love; plus he loves a good cheese slice.
12:21 PM
I put on my coat, grab keys and umbrella near the door, and head out locking the door behind me.
I walked through puddles as I listened to the sounds of rainy lo-fi beats, strolling and watching droplets of rain roll down the windows of buildings. Passing people by, consciously yet unconsciously aware of my surroundings. Eventually, a few blocks away, I finally came across the vintage 1930s themed bookstore on 6th and smith; owned by New York's finest, Mr. Gabriel Barreto of Manhattan.
Standing outside of the building, I take notice of the sign outside of its bay windows.
Something for everyone.
I continued into the store, being greeted by Mr. Gabriel.
“Mi amor! Where have you been!” he exclaims, with his arms in the air and a warm smile across his face.
As I walk up to the counter, I smile and chuckle lightly.
“I’ve been in deep contemplation, since you gifted me the black notebook.”
He smiled as he leaned over the counter, holding his weight with both arms. “It chose you mija. Have you figured it out yet?” he questions me, as he raises his eyebrow.
It?
When he gave me the notebook, he informed me that the notebook had been quite old and that was often overlooked by customers due to its condition. But that maybe it was waiting for one who was "worthy".
“I can't quite put my finger on it Mr. Gabriel. ” Even though I had some idea, I just wasn't confident in the idea.
I continue looking around and I collect a couple books by E. Tolle. Slowly though surely, I make my way back towards the front of the shop.
Mr. Gabriel leaned further in over the counter, locking his eyes with mine and whispered
“Abundance comes to those who wait mi amor.”
He then proceeded to ring me up. “OKAY!” He excitedly and spontaneously shouts! “That is going to be twenty even mija.”
I hand him a twenty dollar bill and smile. “I am patiently waiting for it Mr. Gabriel.”
I grab my bag and head out of the doors of the shop. It was a brief visit, but I suddenly felt the need to get going.
As I exit the store, I hear Mr. Gabriel shouting “You are the magician mija!”
I think of the magician in tarot. I smile and wave at him through the window, before continuing down the block again.
1:23 PM
I take a deep breath of the cool, moist air and affirm:
I am abundant. I am provided for. I am worthy.
As I am walking, I notice a piece of paper stuck on the bars of a bike rack. I stop in my tracks and glare at it for a second to make out what I could be. I approach it more and I come to realize what it is. I honestly could not believe my eyes! My heart and stomach dropped, and chills ran through my body. A check for TWENTY-THOUSAND DOLLARS. Was this it? Was this my breakthrough? So many questions running through my head, I had to take a deep breath to center myself.
Now, I know I can't cash this because it isn't made out to me, but it isn't made out to anyone. I could see it’s from a personal checkbook, from something titled New York and Co. Below it was a number. I figured I should give them a call. I bring my attention to my surroundings, taking notice of the crowd walking around as if there is a bubble which surrounds me. I slide the check into one of the books I bought and continue walking home.
Once inside my apartment, I place the check on my ancestral altar in my room closet, light some incense and say a short prayer. I then decide to call the company’s number on the check. There were three short rings followed by...
“New York and Co, this is Linda, what can I do for you today?”
That was my grandmothers name.
“H-Hi I’m calling because I found this check on the ground from your company and I wanted to return it to-”
I was cut off.
“One sec sweetie, let me connect with the CEO.”
I waited for about ten minutes. Anxiety ridden.
Linda’s voice came through softly. “Hello, miss?”
“Yes ma’am?”
“The CEO would like to thank you for attempting to return the check you find... He would like to write a check to you personally for the amount of the check you have.”
My eyes widened as tears began rolling down my face.
“He believes you to be a special kind of person to make an effort to return a check, considering the amount it's for… he is also very big on making donations to those who are worthy.”
Worthy. I am worthy.
Though the tears have turned into a waterfall, I do my best to respond.
“I try to always do the right thing, that's all.” I grab some tissues and attempt to collect myself.
Linda chuckles softly. Her voice was so warm.
“It’s alright sweetie, I understand completely. All he needs is your bank information and your name, but I will give you his personal email so you can send him the details.”
“Thank you so much Ms. Linda. Thank you. Thank you. Please give my gratitude to him”
She hadn’t said his name so I went along.
“You're very welcome sweetie! He knows already.”
I could tell she was smiling.
Linda gave me his email and shortly after the line suddenly disconnected, which I thought was odd. I wrote the email to the CEO, letting him know how grateful and appreciative I was along with my bank information. I had anxiety about giving my bank information to someone who I couldn't see, but it couldn't hurt... right?
3:33 PM
It’s been a little over an hour since the conversation with Linda, and my phone begins to ring. I notice it's the same number that had been calling me. And it was calling for the third time today… there is no such thing as coincidence.
“Hello?”
There was complete silence. I hung up the phone and checked to see if I had gotten an email response. No response. I logged into my bank account to see if I had gotten the money and there it was. $20,000 in my savings account, in addition to what I already had. I was in such a state of excitement! There was a release of weight from my shoulders!Money doesn’t buy happiness, but I could finally invest in my business to get it lifted off the ground, and help not only myself but my family!
Oddly though, I didn't see a transaction for it. There was nothing to let me know where it had come from, so I decided to look up New York and Co. Surely, I found nothing. No addresses, no website. This must be surreal. I mean… what even just happened? I tried to call the same number that was on the check, and it didn't even ring.
What did I just experience?
Filled with complete gratitude, I make a glass of water, grab my little black notebook from the table, and head back into my room. As I kneel to pray at the ancestral altar, Luna decides to join me as I light candles and incense.
I am grateful... I give gratitude to the universe for the abundance that has come into my life...and it is always so.
Asé.
