I’m walking the Bestest Pupper in the world right now, and writing as I walk. It’s crisp and clear in late October, and I expect to find mushrooms to photograph along my way. I’ll post a photo if there’s anything worth seeing.
Finances are slim right now, and I’m trying anything I can to make a few hundred dollars soon. I’m out of work and not great at job hunting—mushroom sighted—so I’m just looking to fill the gap until my next real job right now. Maybe later I can transition to self employment. My wife believes I should follow my dreams and do what I love, and it sounds great to me—if I can get paid.
More mushrooms. Orange ones. And a mailbox with a conning tower. Bet a submariner lives here. The Bangor submarine base isn’t far.
The fact is, I have grossed less than $4 selling postcards after investing well over $100 in printing and many hours to boot, and it’s not because I’m bad at photography. I’m really fairly good, especially for someone whose only camera is a phone. Trouble is, like this almost magenta leaf I just found, you need to be obviously outstanding to get noticed in the artistic world. I’m just plain old good, and good and outstanding are not the same thing.
My wife is one of the few people who can do what she loves, not just well but at all. That’s something I want to be able to provide, too—a unique and valuable product. If I figure out how, I’ll let you know. If you figure out how, maybe let me know?
Anyways, the walk is nearly over. Time to see if I can get a photo of Lizard Fren. (S)he has been sunning him-or-her-self in the same spot every afternoon for a week or so, and I have come to visit. In addition to being camera shy, Lizard Fren is dog shy, but doesn’t mind being picked up and carried by humans. My wife and I think this may have to do with a piercing wound above his or her hip, which is healing but may be interfereing with torpor. We are providing charity in the form of freeze-dried mealworms in hopes that the world will not lose a northern alligator lizard this winter.
Lizard Fren did indeed allow a photo taken at a distance. He shall be cluster-bombed with noms and wished well.
