If you’re looking to generate more income from your writing, it might be wise to avoid starting from scratch. Instead, look at ways to repurpose your existing content and enhance it into something new. By taking the time to make minor tweaks to your current articles, you’ll be able to expand your writing into multiple forms of media quickly. Not only will this help you earn more money due to increased exposure, but the process itself can be a lot of fun.

Turn Your Article into a Video

It’s no secret that videos attract attention and engage audiences. A short video can be just the ticket for getting your message across effectively and quickly. They are also more likely to be shared on social media and can be included in your blog posts or articles for an added SEO boost. If you’re camera shy (like me!), you can make simple, faceless YouTube videos with InVideo. This amazing software has a “text to video” feature that makes it fast and easy to use your existing text and a few stock images to make short, engaging videos in no time.

Create a Podcast

Podcasts can also get your writing out to a wider audience. Fans of audiobooks would enjoy an opportunity to listen to your article, blog post, or book excerpt in podcast form. In most cases, creating a podcast is completely free. In fact, you don't even technically need a fancy microphone. You can really just use your smartphone to start with. You can also get monetized quickly, even with a small audience, by joining Anchor by Spotify. Simply read your text aloud with a quality microphone and upload it to your Anchor site. And for you Medium writers, you can embed the play button directly into your posts as an alternative to the robotic “Listen” button at the top of your Medium pages.

Post Your Articles on Vocal or Medium for More Exposure

Many of you are already well aware of this one. However, if you happened across this post via Google or social media, there’s a chance you don’t know anything about these platforms. Also, you may frequently read posts from these two sites but haven’t yet taken the plunge to start publishing content. If so, then what are you waiting for? If you already have content that isn’t getting the exposure you thought it would — go ahead and dive in. You can reach broader audiences and get extra cash while you’re at it.

Compile Multiple Posts into an E-book

If you have a series of articles related to a single topic, consider compiling them into a self-published book. Take a look at your past work. If any topics or themes reoccur, then they will make a great foundation for your chapters. While you may want to expand on certain topics or rewrite some of the material, at least you won’t be starting from scratch. Once you’ve compiled all of your articles into one document — and edited them as needed — you can format them into a professional book (I use Vellum) and upload them to Amazon KDP.

Join a Creator Reward Programs on Your Favorite Social Media Channels

The most popular social media platforms now pay creators to post content with creator funds. While there are requirements to qualify for these programs, you may already meet them simply because you’ve been using their site for years. Examples of platforms with creator funds include TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. Once you’ve signed up, you can start earning every time you share your existing content from your Medium posts or your blog.
