A few days ago I made my mind up about wanting to be a ghostwriter in the near future. Aside from the writing, the other big perk of it that intrigued me was the idea of being able to work from home. It was here that I started doing more thinking about working from home. In this modern age remote employment is becoming the standard more and more. As someone who has been considering working remotely I’ve been interested in taking a broader scope at why working remotely is so appealing, so I decided to interview a member of my extended family named Sara Cannon who has spent a great deal of her career working from hometown get her perspective on working remotely.

Me: So Sara, When did you first start working remotely and how long were you doing it for?

Sara: I started working remotely in March of 2020 and ended in February of 2025.

Me: Did you find working remotely to be better or worse than working in office?

Sara: For me, I found it better to work remotely than in office. I had less distractions of people walking up to my desk and I had autonomy over my schedule. It definitely reduced my stress level.

Me: Do you believe remote employment will have a more dominant presence in the near future?

Sara: I do think that remote work is making the work force better overall, even with its drawbacks. While we might work more hours unintentionally because of the lack of commute, some people are eating healthier and working out more, so they’re seeing overall mental health benefits. However, those who are quite extroverted I have seen the opposite effect for them, as they are less productive in a remote setting.

Me: What are the most valuable lessons you’ve learned from working remotely?

Sara: The most valuable lesson I learned working remotely was that me being introverted didn’t mean I was not good at the corporate world. During my time working remotely, I excelled at my work and became more healthy than I had ever been. My mental health improved and I lost a good bit of weight. My best performance reviews came during this time. I learned I was a square being shoved into a round hole, and I accepted myself.

Me: Would you recommend working remotely to friends and colleagues?

Sara: I would recommend working remotely to my friends or colleagues if they are also introverted individuals. For my friends who need constant interaction and rigidity in order to be productive, I would not recommend remote work for them.

I took a lot from my interview with Sara. I feel like her response to remote learning was a great reflection of how most people feel about remote working, at least for those who have partaken. It’s definitely a plus way to work for those who work better in solitude and transportation wouldn’t be an issue. Being able to make your own hours is of course a plus, especially for those of us who have busy lives outside of work. At the same time, Sara was open minded enough to highlight how this path of employment wouldn’t be as tolerable got the extroverted. More than anything I definitely agree that working remotely would have a more dominant presence in the future.
