"From Thottappally with Vision: An Honest Talk with Saroj Kumar S"
A rural boy with a digital dream — changing how the world sees village creators”

By Saroj Kumar S · July 2025 · Interview/Spotlight
When you meet Saroj Kumar S, you’re struck by his simplicity — not flashy, not loud, but there’s a certain quiet intensity about him. At just 18, this young digital creator from Thottappally, a serene coastal village in Alappuzha, Kerala, is already turning heads across the Indian social media scene.
We sat down with Saroj to talk about his roots, hustle, and dreams beyond the Instagram reels.
---
🔹 Q: Saroj, let’s begin at the beginning. Who are you, behind the screen?
Saroj:
I’m just a boy from Thottappally who loves to create. I grew up in a normal middle-class home with loving parents — my dad, Sunil, and my mom, Rajani. They’ve supported me in everything, even when I said I wanted to make videos on my phone. I never had big gear or fancy lighting… just passion and patience.
---
🔹 Q: What got you into content creation?
Saroj:
It started with gaming. I used to watch montage videos and thought, “Why can’t I make something like this?” So I downloaded CapCut and started trying things out. I had no training. Just YouTube and mistakes. Slowly, I learned how to edit better, how to add music, cuts, and transitions.
Then I made motivational reels. People started messaging me — saying it helped them, even in small ways. That’s when I knew: this is what I want to do.
---
🔹 Q: You’re from a village. Did that ever feel like a limitation?
Saroj:
At times, yes. Slow internet, no big influencers around me, and people not taking “Instagram” seriously. But at the same time, I think it made me more creative. I had to be resourceful. I didn’t have money to buy editing tools, so I used mobile apps. I didn’t have a setup, so I made do with what I had.
And that’s my biggest message to others: Start where you are.
---
🔹 Q: You’ve been featured in Vocal Media, Youth Ki Awaaz, and even Medium. How did that happen?
Saroj:
Honestly, those moments felt like validation. When I saw my story written like that — in English, on a proper website — I felt proud. Not for myself, but for every small-town creator who thinks no one will notice them. These platforms helped me be seen.
---
🔹 Q: What does a “day in your life” look like?
Saroj:
I wake up, check my DMs 😄, look for trending audio, and start working on ideas. I plan my reels, edit, re-edit, sometimes even scrap everything and restart. It’s hard — mentally draining at times — but when one reel gets good reach or a comment says “Bro, you inspired me,” that makes it worth it.
---
🔹 Q: What’s your dream now?
Saroj:
Instagram verification is a big one — not just the badge, but what it symbolizes: recognition. I also want to build a creative hub in Thottappally. A space for kids who want to learn editing, content, storytelling — everything I wish I had when I started.
---
🔹 Q: Final words for your followers?
Saroj:
Thank you for trusting a boy with a phone and a dream. If I can inspire even one person to start — to believe in their small beginnings — that’s my win.
---
🔹 Q: Looking back now, do you feel like you've made it?
Saroj:
Not really — I feel like I’m just getting started. I still get excited over small things: a reel hitting 10K views, someone DM-ing me from a different state. But yes, when I look back at where I began — from a small room in Thottappally, editing on a phone — I do feel proud. Not because I became famous or anything, but because I didn’t give up.
---
🔹 Q: If we meet you again in 5 years, where do you think you’ll be?
Saroj:
I hope by then I’ve grown into a full-time creator. Maybe even mentoring others. I’d love to have a YouTube channel with real impact, maybe open a small studio in Alappuzha. And of course — see “Saroj Kumar S” when you Google, and see something real, something that started from zero.
