Sterling Customizable

T.V. pilot Show about making movies customizable

By simplicityPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 5 min read

The show opens with the introduction of a Character known as Sterling. Sterling is a graphic engineer, but really he creates Deep Fakes as his claim to fame. Until one day, his Friend says to him "It's cool, but whats the point? You live in barely a one bedroom apartment with a makeshift kitchen and a small bathroom. You are smart, but what's it worth? I mean it's all Child's play unless you can make money at it, right?"

This question is what sends Sterling on his path. He starts developing technology where the viewer can decide on what characters play the characters in movies. Giving the viewer multiple choices. It's the ultimate customizable viewing experience. The show is about his tech development and start up. Even going to various psychologists to get written proof that his technology would help the mental stability of individuals in the general population. Making for a happier population.

Never could he have imagined the divide that would emerge in Hollywood. Directors, producers, Actors/Actresses would all question his idea. Some are against it as an affront to the creator and creative process and choices made in the production of something. Others, like it as a social experiment to see how the general public actually receive them. Still others, find it extremely nerve racking and stressful, a new age popularity contest.

The show follows his encounters with various individuals in the business of Hollywood as well as the tech industry as he pushes forward with his project. He comes to see himself as a social scientist, as well as a graphic engineer.

The comedy comes from the interactions that develop between the members of the team he puts together and those between orhers encountered during the techs development. The show would have a feeling similar to that of 'Parks & Recreation', 'The Office', 'Entourage', and 'The Big Bang' mixed with a little 'Star Trek'. It would be Innovative and forward thinking while being relevant to todays atmosphere. The show would highlight the uncertainty felt in the job market at all levels.

Will he pull it off? Can he gain the funding needed and retain it? Will it be a positive use of his skill? Will he make Deep Fakes a legitimate business? Will he Change the face of his kind to the public, lending a respectable legitimacy to an area that is generally looked down on?
Sterling never lacks motivation, but can he befriend the business he is threatening?

The pilot script will begin by introducing Sterling through various shots of him doing ordinary day things. Reading headlines on his phone, watching youtube videos (laughing at animal videos, drunk girls falling, pranks, spelling bees, etc.), drawing sketch storyboards, getting food, talking with his mom on the phone and attending school for graphic design. It will transition into him playing video games with his best friend. He shows his friend a deep fake he has made of his friend. He tells his friend it's a video he took the night before, when they were out. It shows his friend trying to rally people to do YMCA unprompted on the dance floor. Then trying to moon walk before booping people on the nose as he walks to the bathroom. The last part of the video is him stealing a tip from a nearby table.

The friend Damien:
"Bullshit that's me! You forget, I know you."

Sterling:
"But you don't know for sure, do you?"

Damien:
"I'd never boop someone on the nose."

Sterling:
"That's what gave it away?!"

Damien:
"I hate being booped. I was celebrating hard, but not that hard. Pretty good man. It's cool, but whats the point? You live in barely a one bedroom apartment with a makeshift kitchen and a small bathroom. You are smart, but what's it worth? I mean it's all Child's play unless you can make money at it, right?"

Sterling:
"And yet, you are here almost every night."

Damien:
"I don't like to clean up after people, but point taken. My place is pretty much the same."

(He turns off the video game and starts a movie)

Sterling:
"I could make money doing this."

Damien:
"Oh yeah, how?"

Sterling:
Take this movie we are watching. Wouldn't it be fun if you could switch Heather Graham and Sandra Bullock in their movies 'Comitted' and 'All About Steve' just to see? Just depending on your mood. I always want to see John goodman as Russell Crows character in 'The Nice Guys'' and I think Russell Crow was great. Just you know, sometimes you think something for whatever reason.

Damien:
Uh yeah I guess so. Yeah, I'd  be interested. Sometimes I'd like to just see another actress the day I'm watching something. Just to see.

Sterling:
"Exactly!" I could make that happen". A program that lets you pick who's in your movie as the main characters. A completely customizable option. You could watch the original or choose to alter it.

Damien:
"I think you might be on to something."

Sterling:
"Oh I'm on to something, been on something. Let's do it."

Damien:
"Sounds like a lot of work? I don't think I can work with you"

Sterling:
"We just played on the same team in our game online"
Damien:
"Yeah and you didnt take direction well."

Sterling:
"Great minds never do. Come on?!"

Damien:
"I'll give it a 90 day trial period, but we need a team and funding."

Sterling: (Already at his computer)
"Already on it. I got this."

The show continues with interviews of potential team members. It shows Damien and Sterling working on a business plan and applying for grants and setting up meetings with tech/movie big wigs. As part of the business plan they visit a few psychologist to get "proof" for their concept.
(One scene)
Psychologist:
"So you are developing a tool for mental health."

Sterling:
"I believe that is one outcome, but that's where you come in. Do you believe it would help with patient mental health. Maybe a girl who lost a love one or had a bad break up....was bullied. If she could change the actor or actress with a likeness to one she wanted to see or eliminate one's she didn't want to see wouldn't that help her mental health. Or a man who felt stress at seeing an actress that resembled his boss. If he could change her, wouldn't the movie be more enjoyable. So the time he spent had more power as a fun activity.

Psychologist:
"I would assume, yes. That would be true."

Sterling:
"Or you? Maybe there is a client you didn't want to think about outside of work?"

Psychologist:
"Okay you got me, but we need trials and case studies."

Sterling:
"We will get em. You want to be a part of something great?" (flashes a sterling smile)

The episode ends with Sterling and his friend getting a backer and setting up a new office and holding their first meeting. At the meeting they outline the next steps.

Sterling:
"We are selling something not fully developed yet. Our job is to make people forget it's not fully developed and make them believe they need it. That it IS the next big thing of the future. That's business in a nutshell. Now let's get to work before a competitor who knows what they are doing does something."

Damien:
"We better have a great legal team. I'm sure there are copy right laws for likeness."

Sterling:
"Yes, we do, but we will also incorporate some lesser famous people at first to show what's possible until we sign our first major name."

Damien:
"Who will that be?"

Sterling:
"That's our job to figure out"
