My Tornado
}{ }{ }{
Something to know about me is that I really don’t like mess. Really!
Okay, so maybe you can’t “eat off my floor” as the old adage says, but even if you could, why would you want to?
My house is tidy, yet “lived in”. It’s dusted, scrubbed, vacuumed, and the windows washed. Yes, there are a few dishes in the sink, but, hey, we just finished lunch so they can sit and wait a bit. I know firsthand that they won’t grow legs and walk away.
Each bedroom is neat and clean – well, maybe not each bedroom. I used to make my bed daily. You know, straighten the pillows, put on the spread and shams, and make sure everything is uniform. Until my husband said, “Why are you doing that every day? You know, we’re only going to take it off when we go to bed. Just save it for when we’re having company.”
“God love him!! He saved me from another chore.”
My only exception to my tidy rule is my little home office. As quickly as I clean and tidy it, my personal tornado rips through and sends everything askew again. Weird how my office looks, though. I have it divided in two seconds (no, there isn’t a wall, just an imaginary line in my head). One side is where I keep my printers and stationery. The other side is where I do my crafting. While all my materials are kept in plastic tubs, I really have way too many tubs.
I’ll explain. I used a variety of colored papers. Each color is in its own tub: reds and the variation of that color is in one. All the different shades of blue are in another. And so on, but I still have seven tubs, not counting the one where I keep the paper with patterns. Then of course, I have smaller tubs with the accommodating ribbons for each color paper.
I have other crafty stuff in their own tubs so that makes my “crafty” side of the room look way overcrowded and cluttered.
Before you ask, no, I don’t have another room to dedicate to my crafts. That would be a fantastic thing for me to have so I could spread things out, hide things away, and just look like a normal person with a normal room.
What a darn minute!! I NEVER said I was normal.
My little home office / craft room is the only room in the house where my husband refuses to enter – unless he’s desperate. Since it doubles as a home office, this is also where my file cabinets are kept. Those cabinets hold owners’ manuals, records for the house, insurance papers, and the list goes on.
No, the top of the file cabinets (there are only two) is where I store the binders that hold my ancestry documents (mine and my husband’s), the cans of spray paint and spray adhesive I use in crafting.
As I said, this area really does look cluttered.
I really need to put most of the spray paint in the cabinet in the garage. Yes, I will – someday. Right now? I don’t have the time.
I need to clean out a few of the drawers in the file cabinets where papers that are more than twenty years old are stored. I really don’t need the old mortgage application my parents filled out when they purchased their home in 1969. Yep, I’ll get those drawers – someday. Not just today.
I have way too many photos on my computer that I need to copy to a USB drive. Perhaps tomorrow. Just not today.
In a box that sits on the table to the left of my desk chair, you’ll see too many papers that I really need to sort. Some are things I planned to do months ago and can now be tossed out. Some are bills that are due by the end of the month. Other papers, I have no idea what they are, so I’ll really need to peruse them attentively.
I spent the entire summer going through boxes of old photographer that had belonged to my mom. I still have one box left to do. When I say box, I mean a very large plastic storage tub. Plus, I have one of my own to sort through. Yes, I will definitely get to them – someday.
Look, I’m really not a procrastinator. Really, I’m not, but ...
I make greeting cards as a hobby. Some I sell at craft fairs while I make others for my own personal use.
Yes, I still clean the house. I also write stories and often grab my camera and drive to one of our local parks and take pictures.
I exercise at my local gym three days a week.
My life is really organized – well, maybe everything but my home office.
But, oh well, I really will get to that – someday.

Two years ago, I found a way to get rid of all my things, and I mean, almost everything amassed in over three decades. I simply moved to another country, Greece, and left it behind for my so-called landlord to take care of. He told me that I could. I was always tidy, but now, back from Greece after 18 months living there, it's much easier with almost nothing : )
Fantastic work! Great job!
