Unique ideas for the DIY Halloween enthusiast

By Leslie WritesPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 3 min read

Last October I combed the internet for the best Halloween projects in a piece for the Lifehack community called ‘Halloween Vibes to DIY for.’ Then in February I experimented with spices of dubious origins in a Humor article called ‘Pizza Everything.’

This year I thought it would be fun to combine my love of Halloween and my penchant for blogging weird experiments to bring you some of my own creepy craft ideas.

Remember, Halloween only comes once a year, so if you are a creepy crafter like me, then this is your time to shine. So warm up your glue gun and go get some supplies. Go ahead and treat yo self.

Now without further ado, here’s a list of my newest creations to get you started.

1. Add some boo to your poo with this toilet paper ghost. 👻

Hope I don't have a reaction to that permanent marker

2. Can’t get enough pumpkin spice? 🎃 Shoot that P. Speezy right into your gourd with this homemade pumpkin spice nasal spray!

Ingredients:

(measure with your heart)

  • Sprig of flannel
  • Drop of morning dew
  • Cimmimim
  • Essence of Ugg boot
  • Vibes
Formula patent pending

3. How about some spooky skeletons? 💀 All you need is a few paper signs and a sense of whimsy. This one is great for a party if you don’t mind explaining the joke all night.

Sign? Check! Whimsy? Check!

4. Celebrate the season by bringing the outdoors in with this easy centerpiece. 🍁 I found all of this right outside my door!

The dog looks impressed

5. Costume Idea: The Whywolf 🐺

It’s like a werewolf, but not as committed to the bit.

For this costume you will need:

  • A plaid flannel shirt (whywolves are pretty butch).
  • A cheap wolf ear headband. *Mine is a freebie from Great Wolf Lodge, America’s premier Wolf themed indoor water park, also voted best way to get COVID by Parents Magazine three years in a row.

Here's a bit of classic whywolf lore I just made up:

  • Comes out when the moon is half full or ‘close enough.’
  • Eats human flesh. - 'It’s okay, but it’s not like my favorite.'
  • Not covered in hair, but definitely hasn’t shaved in a while.
  • Orthodontists tried to fix that underbite, but somebody wouldn’t wear their retainer!
“Ah-wooo?”

Now as a little treat, I want to share some wild stories of people who made their Halloween decorations so realistic that their neighbors called the cops! Of course, you are in no danger of that here, I just though it was funny how far some will go in the name of Halloween.

  • Some New York homeowners pretended to burn their house down. Apparently, the fire department was more impressed than angry. 🔥
  • A guy in Kentucky staged a car accident on his front lawn. The cops made him post a sign that said, 'Halloween Display - Do not call police.' 🚙
  • A Halloween decoration from a Florida thrift shop turned out to be an actual human skull! I wonder if it belongs to the illusive ‘Florida man’ who’s always makin’ the news. 🐊
  • Not to be outdone, this dude in Texas received multiple police calls for his serial killer's Halloween bloodbath! Don’t mess with Texas indeed! 🩸

Happy Halloween!
