Don't Squawk On My Food!

Who was naughtiest? My Grandson or the Seagull?

The Naughty Seagull: Taken by my husband Jonathan Townend, 08/09/2023.

I love holidays, especially when children are involved!

We went to Great Yarmouth, U.K. recently with the grandchildren and my daughter. We decided to pay a visit to Shemara which is a cafe near the beach that sells fresh food and drinks. We are regular visitors to this cafe, and we love going there. Their drinks and food are delicious but are not over priced like some cafes.

On 08/09/2023 we had a final meal and drink at the coffee shop before our grandchildren and their parents had to head home. The seagulls started flapping all around us, often landing on the tables and pinching food.

"Oh no!" Our tw0-year-old grandson called out.

One of the seagulls swooped onto our table and stole one of my younger granddaughter's chicken nuggets.

"Fuck off, leave my daughter's food alone!" my daughter called out in annoyance, and the seagull flew onto the beach. Amused at the scene unfolding in front of him, our grandson decided to observe the seagull on the beach. I think he was trying to stop it from coming back to the table to steal his sister's food.

It is a really sweet sight to see a young brother protecting his younger sibling.

The seagull was watching him in anticipation, hoping that he would leave so that he could steal more food.

My grandson was getting annoyed because the seagull just would not leave his sister's food alone. He threw his fist to the back of his head, ran forward, and shouted

"Fuck off!" at the seagull.

We don't encourage swearing in children, but this was something that made us laugh. We often tell parents if they are going to swear, then young children will pick up on it. However, we had never heard our grandson swear before! We couldn't tell our grandson off because he was only trying to protect his sister.

When adults get annoyed in situations like this, they sometimes swear. It isn't always purposeful, it is usually out of annoyance and frustration.

In this case, we shrugged it off but we still found it really funny hearing a two year old swear out of annoyance. However, two things here:

  • He was only trying to protect his sister.
  • He had overheard what his mum had said

In my opinion, neither mum nor son were in the wrong. They were just trying to protect their youngest family member.

However, if you don't want your children to swear, then don't swear yourself. Even very young children can pick up bad language, and they can pick it up from anyone. If they hear mum or dad swear, they will think using that language is okay.

There are some cases such as these where you really can't blame a little one for swearing. After all, if a seagull pinched my food,

I'd tell it to 'fuck off' too!

Wouldn't you?

I'll let you decide who was the naughtiest,

My grandson or the seagull?

Personally, I'd choose the seagull.

"Now, Mr. Seagull. Fuck off, and don't pinch my sister's food! You can also stay away from my food too!"

Remember, a seagull will pinch your food from right under your nose. You don't need to be at your table for the robbers to steal your chips. If they want it, they are going to take it anyway!

Be on your guard, or the world could just invent Seagull police?

That doesn't sound like such a bad idea!

Right, I'm late for work; so, I'm off to change into my Seagull Police uniform!

All I can say is...

The greedy fuckers also stole my chips!
