Competition
Artists don't compete, we collaborate
Heckling a comedian is never a good idea...
You ever see room of professional comedians and they are all just laughing and having the best time because they are all funny and they enjoy each other's comedy? I love seeing that, I love the shared love of their craft and seeing them just have fun together, it's really amazing to watch.
But on stage if someone in the audience tries to be funny, those same comedians are annoyed? Well why is that? Is it jealousy because the heckler is funnier than them? I mean they don't get jealous of other professional comedians, they work together and have fun talking about comedy together, so what's the deal (with airline food), no really what is the issue?
Artists don't compete, we collaborate... if you start doing any kind of art and feel insecure because you're new at it, and you think it's wise to find a professional to compete with, just don't...
Okay? it's like hecklers at a comedy show.
That person on stage is on a stage for a reason, they are most likely getting paid, and I know your friends might tell you that you're funny enough to be a comedian but that person you're about to go against has most likely had years of practice. You're not going to out funny a professional comedian because they can roast you better and not only tell you that you're not funny, they can probably break down all the reasons you aren't funny, in detail.
Same goes with any kind of thing that requires talent, if you haven't put in any effort to learn about what you're doing or how other people do it and you think you can just step into it and just be naturally talented because your friends say it's good and it looks amazing to you...
Yea they are going to say that, because they are your friends. And you think it looks good because you are experiencing something called the dunning-Kruger effect. If you never consume the thing you're attempting to make, of course you're going to look at anything you make as good because you're comparing it to nothing...
Literally nothing, words or paint on a canvas are better than no words at all and nothing on a canvas, that's all you're comparing it to. The people who you just come right out of the gate attacking and trying to compete with, well at the very least are comparing your work to their own, which is better than yours by default like 99.9% of the time just from the fact that they have a lot more practice, at the bare minimum. So they are going to see that you suck and they can tell you not only that you suck but all the reasons that you suck, in detail. They aren't going to see you as competition, they're going to see you the same way a professional stand up comic sees a heckler.
And hecklers never out funny the comedians, they just look like drunken idiots
