Yes She Can..Yes She Did

Changing lives one person at a time

We're all in this together!

I realized at an early age that I had a knack for making people laugh when they were sad, I could also bring them to tears with laughter when I felt like being silly. Ironic though no one could do the same for me. This is my story to share. I was raised in a loving home with my mom, dad and brother. Sadly to say they are all in Heaven now.

Let's go back to elementary school, I remember the age of six, seven and eight. I know I made friends easily and I was always dressed in the trendy clothes for the 60's (Yes, I'm that old)! I was not raised to be prejudice, oh no my daddy wasn't having that. Yes in case you didn't know I am a Black female, who grew up in a White suburban community. Enough of that, let's move on.

I loved school until Junior High when you really had to work hard to pass. I will say I did my best, however, I was a C- student throughout my three years. I attended an all girl High school, played on the basketball team and the track team, but could not rise above that C- status. I wrote my first poem in high and that reality is when I knew I had a skill.

I'm taking you down memory lane so you can feel and understand the transition and how I got where I am today. After High School I went to college and dropped out. Hated it!! Through all of this I was making people that I met along the way, smile, laugh out loud and I also would listen to them and some how I always knew the right things to say.

I started working at the age of nineteen. My supervisor was a really nice Italian young lady. She taught me everything and told me one day I would be a writer, or a counselor. I didn't believe her. I went back to College in my mid thirties after a failed marriage and two sons. I stayed for two years and dropped out to support my youngest son in high school. It was during that time I started realize my passion; I loved working with people regarding their personal lives; raising their children, addiction, death in the family and domestic violence.

I kept a steady job working with the elderly, the homeless, victims of Domestic Violence, HIV/AIDS, Single parents and the list goes on. People (including my sons) started to tell their friends about me. Believe it or not, I would meet and talk with them about their issues or concerns and they all appreciated the time I spent with them. I could never rationalize in my head how I always knew what to say, how to say it and help people in this way.

As time went on I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Human Services and with Honors Summa Cum Laude! I owned my craft and continue to meet people and listen to them and wait for that response in my head and and they would thank me and tell me how much I helped them. Because I am a humbled person, I still could not embrace how I was able to do the things I did until 2019.

I know I've taken you the long way around , but I needed to so you could understand what I'm passionate about and why people gravitate to me. To know me is how you understand the title. I lost everything in 2019 and I'm still putting my life back together. I'm still being silly and making people laugh; I'm still saving the world one person at a time. I renewed my faith in the world and the ugliness of Covid and Racism. I went back to Church.

I believe people come to me because I make sense and some know my life story and what I had to overcome. I am a pleasant woman that loves people (just like my mom) and even during bad times, I'm smiling. In 2014 I wrote my memoirs, sent it out to be published in 2019; waiting for the release by the end of 2021. I started speaking at Wellness Centers, FB Podcast and Church about my life specifically being a victim and a survivor. I am now promoting myself as a Transformational Speaker on that same subject. I am also a Certified Professional Voice Talent and a Consultant for GuidePost. I now have a trade name for my business www.victoryisyours2.com The niche is: Dare 2B Fearless!

In 2021 I have embraced the passion that I have for making others lives durable and livable and sometimes lovable and tolerable. My sons still have their friends call me for advice; while people that I've met along the way will text me or message me on FB about an issue they feel I can help with. So now it's time for me to put $$$ signs in front of all of this simply because Retirement is not enough at the age of sixty-three.

I love what I do, and it fills my heart with joy when my friends and some family members continue to call for my opinion, my advice or just for me to listen. I feel blessed to be able to share my experiences with others so they can feel whole and know that they too can and will survive it all. Thank you for your time, you too are appreciated.
