Work in Progress

It all started on a snowy day of winter, and there she was sitting on the front porch wrapped in a blanket with a mug of fresh coffee in her hand. All you could see of her was her auburn hair and her glasses she had. She was known to most as Mae. There was nothing happening that day so she just sat there thinking to herself how everything was starting to change in her life. Her budding romantic relationship, her failing relationship with her mom, and the newly incarcerated father. Everything in her life was being juggled around and she was trying her very best to keep up with the pace.

Her relationship with her mom has been going downhill for years but it only started getting worse when she started her relationship with Beau. They had been close until five years previously when they moved cities. Mae always wanted her mom to have a great relationship, that she always saw in movies and shows. Soon that started to become further from ever being a possibility. Her father was never in her life really, but his actions have been haunting her since she found out he was arrested.

Her father was a Navy officer, who abused his power. He tortured and abused many women. Many believe it is possible that he could have more victims than have came forwarded, and some believe he may have even killed some of the women. Mae had been in a state of depression and shock for over a year. Her friends abandoned her, her previous boyfriend broke up with her, and her mom became more distant than ever. It was the lowest low she had ever experienced before.

Then, one day she met Beau, and from the instant she started getting to know him, she knew he was it. She fell in love with him within moments of learning small things, and then over time grew to love him for the incredibly dumb things he does. She was always the girl that believed that whatever happens is what is supposed to happen, and never gave jealousy an inch of her brain. Now that she's with him the thought of any other woman having his attention kills her. The fact he has been with others kills her as well. She has never felt the way she does with him, and that absolutely terrifies her.

However, she pictures an amazing future with him, one with traveling, buying a house, getting married, and having kids. She knows she only wants him. Mae does worry that her jealousy may hurt their relationship at times, because she worries that someone better will come along and ruin the one part of her life she now feels like if she loses she will die. He has shown her what it is to be loved, and she has seen his family and seen how a family can be. Mae and Beau have only been together for only a little over a year now, but she knows she wants the rest of her life with him.

There are so many things that can be said about Mae, most will call her caring, sweet, funny, cute, and all kinds of other things. The only time it really matters is when it is Beau saying it. Since dating him she has made a lot of new friends, and has started drinking more because they have roommates and they all drink together most of the time. She made this one friend at the little bar near their home that they would go to on a regular basis called The Escape. The girl she met there was a sweet girl named Lynn. For about a month Mae and Lynn were inseparable, they would hang out every single night. That is until the night that would change Mae's life.

The night, started out pretty early, Mae got a text from Lynn asking if she wanted to grab some food and maybe a drink at The Escape, and Mae had nothing planned so she agreed to go. It was a normal night for the two, they got there and said a quick hello to all their friends that worked at the bar which included the bartenders, the bouncer, and some members of the kitchen staff. They were getting flirted with left and right, and guys were buying them drinks and shots for hours.

This one guy at the bar had been telling Mae the entire night that she had to get more and more drunk. Every time he said something like that she got an odd feeling, eventually she found one of their friends, Sam, that was at the bar that night as well. Mae asked him if he would come and sit with them because this guy was really creeping her out. He agreed and she felt better with him there. As the night continued, Mae started to realize she had been there the whole night and it was almost time for the bar to close. She went to find Lynn and saw her falling every time she would try to sit in a chair, so Mae got Lynn some water. When Mae got back over to her friends, Sam told her that the bouncer, Mike, had started making out with Lynn. At this point Mae decided to get her and Lynn home.

Lynn tried telling Mae she could walk home by herself, but that was not cutting it for Mae. She got both their stuff together and started walking, when they got a little down the street from the bar, the creepy guy from the bar pulled up asking if we would like a ride. We declined but he kept insisting, so then Mae pretended to get a phone call from her boyfriend, which made that man quickly drive away.

An hour or so later, they make it to Lynn's house. They both are kind of hungry so they make some pasta and put on a movie. A few minutes later Mae's phone starts ringing, it's Mike, the bouncer from the bar, who is also friends with Mae's boyfriend, he asked to talk to Lynn so Mae gave her the phone. He asked Lynn if she would like some more alcohol and some cigarettes, she said yes and told him her address. She told Mae that he was coming and that she planned on after he was there for about ten minutes asking him to leave.

Mike shows up about twenty minutes later, he immediately hugs both girls, and Mae is already feeling uncomfortable as she feels his hands a little too low on her backside. They go inside and Mae is trying to find her phone or even Lynn's phone at this point. She asks both Lynn and Mike if they see the phones and Mike openly says he had hid them. Then chuckles acting like it is a joke. Mae starts frantically looking for a phone so she could call Beau and have him come over and take her home and hopefully scare off Mike.

Unfortunately, when she found her phone it had died, and it was in the laundry basket that Lynn had beside the front door, which was an odd place for her phone to be. She quickly plugged it in and was trying to get it to turn on. Then while she was turned away, Mike came behind her and started to touch her from behind, she immediately got away from him and went over to Lynn and told her he was making her really uncomfortable.

Lynn decided to ask him to leave, after all at this point it was four in the morning. So, Lynn says to him, "Mike we're going to bed, you know where the front door is, so you can let yourself out." At this point Mae started feeling really dizzy and just odd. So the two of them went and laid down in Lynn's bed. They heard the front door open and close and believed that Mike had finally left so they started to fall asleep.

Around twenty-five minutes later, Mae heard the bedroom door jerk open and then slide back a little bit, and felt eyes on her. She couldn't move a muscle, she was completely frozen and could barely open one eye. She started to believe that she had been drugged by Mike, which would have been difficult since she was only drinking water at the point he was there, but she did remember leaving it unattended. Then, she heard him walking into the room, she felt him begin to touch her legs, she forced her eye to open even so slightly just to confirm what was happening.

When her eye opened, it was confirmed, Mike was the one in the room. He was touching them both. Her eye couldn't stay open any longer. She felt Mike start kissing and licking her leg, which made the creepy thing he was already doing, creepier. He started to climb into the bed with them, Mae wanted to scream or run away, but her body felt like it was just shutting down. He got right behind Mae and began to go underneath her shirt and tried to get between her thighs. Mae began to get more and more scared of what was going to happen to her and Lynn. He begins to thrust into may over the clothes and she feels him getting hard. Then, Mike heard a noise in the living room and goes to check what it was. As soon as they heard him leave the room, they jumped up and closed and locked the bedroom door.

Mae finally got her phone on and started calling Beau, and Lynn was calling her ex. They yelled and told Mike he had to leave because they were coming. Thankfully he did leave, unfortunately Mae was unable to get ahold of Beau, he was already asleep. Lynn was able to get her ex to come over and he stayed until morning. Mae slept on the couch while they slept in the bedroom. She couldn't believe what had just happened, she felt like it was her fault and was scared to tell Beau what happened.

The next day, Mae woke up and tried calling Beau again but he still wasn't up. So she walked over to the gas station near Lynn's house, and on the walk Lynn started texting her freaking out asking when she left and if she was okay. Mae explained she was just walking to the gas station and she would be right back. When Mae got back, they started talking together about what had happened last night, Lynn could barely remember anything, unfortunately for Mae she remembered everything.

They decided to reach out to a close friend of them both, Jim, that worked at the bar with Mike to ask for advice. He agreed to pick them up and go for lunch, and that is where they explained to him what happened. He was furious, he couldn't believe that Mike would do that, Jim told them they needed to talk to the bar manager about what happened. They said they would go in that night and talk to the manager, Mark.

Jim dropped Mae off at her house and then dropped Lynn off at her parents' house. When Mae got home, she was hoping to catch Beau at home before work but he had already left, she called him and tried explaining what happened, he was very upset. He said if she wanted to wait to go and talk to the manager the following day, he would go with her. She said she wanted to go as soon as possible, she knew Mike wouldn't be there so she would be okay to go there. He said he wished he could be there for her and told her to tell their roommates because they were friends with Mike and they should know.

One of their roommates offered to go with her if she wanted but she said Lynn would be there. The other two were shocked and that was really the extent of it. The time came when Lynn and Mae had agreed to meet at the Escape and talk to the manager, however when Mae was on her way over Lynn texted and said she couldn't go. No details just it was too much for her. So, Mae went alone, she was panicked sitting in the bar, she got scared every time the door opened.

Eventually the bar manager got there, and she asked to speak to him privately, they went into the bar office and when he closed the door her body started to feel like it was shutting down again. She started to tell Mark what happened and she started to cry, it all started to hit her, and it started to really mess with her brain that she went through it within the past twenty-four hours. Mark said that he was very sorry that it happened to them and that he was going to fire Mike and talk to the owner of the bar as well.

After everything she had been through, Mae decided she wanted to take a long shower, but in the shower she started freaking out. She felt her body going into the shocked state it was in just twelve hours prior. She sat in the shower crying and freaking out for an hour. She finally pulled herself together and got cleaned up, and then just went to bed early. For the next few weeks she couldn't be alone or leave the house without having a panic attack. It took even longer for her to be able to be intimate with Beau again.

Now she's starting to heal, she is diagnosed with PTSD, as for Lynn, she isn't really too impacted by the events of that night. Mae now keeps a stun gun and pepper spray in her purse so she has some kind of protection. It's hard to know who you can trust in this day and age now. It's scary to just be alive now. Everyone should stay vigilant and always make sure they know what is in their drinks and never leave drinks unattended.
