Why You Shouldn’t Feel Rushed to Succeed in Your 20s - Tiwa Savage Tells Story

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage is today, the queen of Afrobeats in Nigeria. She has been in the industry for over a decade, and found her success in her 30s—a rarity, as most women in entertainment usually blow up in their 20s or earlier. This singular fact is something that Tiwa says is very important to her, and to the work she does today. In a new interview with Cool FM, Tiwa opened up about aging and success, and gave advice to people younger than her who are also trying to make it. Here is what Tiwa had to say.

During her interview, Tiwa was asked "For younger ones looking up to you out there, people in their 20s or 30s, what would you advise? What advice would you give to that female looking up to Tiwa Savage?" She responded:

TIWA SAVAGE: I love that question because the reason why it's so important for me to succeed, and to continue to succeed, is because of that question. Because I don't want people in their 20s or 30s to feel pressure if they haven't made it, because I made it in my 30s. Do you get what I'm saying? And I'm still going in my 40s.

So, I love that and I want people to know that: relax, it's cool. Your time is coming. It's not about if, it's about when. And you know if I'm still going, then you have nothing to worry about. Like you have nothing to worry about. You're going to do even way more than me. So you should enjoy enjoy this part of it.

Because when you get to that other side, you can't be back here anymore. You can never go back. Like you know when you first start, you can take several months to do one song. You're just chilling, there's no pressure, there's no streams, there's no record labels pressuring you, and you can do what's really from your heart.

But once you start, and you make it; to sustain it, that's hard. It's hard to get a hit record, but it's harder to stay in the industry for more than 10 years. That's hard, and that's when you start thinking of charts, and radio plugs, and DJs and endorsements and all that kind of stuff.

So enjoy this moment, cuz it will happen, it will happen. Trust me, it will happen. Stay positive, it will happen.
