Why Yes, I Like to Sign Young People Over Old - Don Jazzy
Don Jazzy talks qualities he looks for before signing

One of the major things that is known about the MAVIN dynasty, especially these new crop of artistes getting signed to the label, is that they are all very young. Many of them signed when they were either in their teens or early 20s. It almost feels these days, that to be a MAVIN, you have to be a young boy or girl, and today, Don Jazzy is confirming those speculations.
During a new interview with Fisayo Fosudo, Don Jazzy opened up about the different qualities he looks for when thinking of signing an artiste, and to the surprise of - well, nobody - age is one of the things the MAVIN CEO looks out for. During the interview, Don Jazzy gave his reason though for why he likes to sign young people over older ones, and why age is a key quality for him. Here is what Don Jazzy said.

During the interview, Don Jazzy was asked "What are some key qualities that you look out for when you want to bring on talent or artistes?" to which he responded:
DON JAZZY: Once upon a time, I wouldn't think of signing an artiste that is social media savvy. Now, I kinda want to put it at the beginning of my list. So talent, obviously. I sort of do like a - if I say spirit check now, they will say e be like say na juju [laughs] - but I kinda do a vibe check, like due diligence to see if there is culture fit because we've kinda built something very beautiful at MAVIN and if we look at you and maybe your mannerisms, your character, you don't fit in, there'll probably be friction, so I look at that.
Age at the moment is kinda important as well. The people that move the market are youngings. Because the older guys are busy making money for the family and they're worried about their family. They are busy. They don't care about helping you to go and stream. They don't care about staring at your social media to know when you post "oh new single out this Friday", they don't know all that. But the young guys are still pretty much into the whole culture thing. So yeah.
