Why Women Should Be Allowed to Marry 3 Husbands - Okey Bakassi

Nigerian comedian and actor Okey Bakassi is opening up during a new interview with The Honest Bunch about why he believes in polygamy, and why he thinks women too should be allowed to marry multiple men if they want to. Here is what the comedian had to say, and the reasons he gave for believing so.

Speaking about why he believes in polygamy and thinks everybody, men and women, should be allowed to marry multiple spouses, Okey Bakassi said:

I still think that polygamy is the best form of marriage for Africa. Monogamy is not working. We're pretending. It's not working. Now, what is the difference between polygamy and monogamy? Polygamy says you can marry two people at the same time, monogamy say you cannot marry them at the same time, you have to let one go. What if you don't want to let that one go? But you're forced to. In monogamy, it doesn't stop you from marrying six in your lifetime, true or false? True, but you have to divorce them. So society is not saying that you cannot marry many women, just that you cannot keep two or more of them at the same time.

So what happens when you divorce 1, 2, 3 and there were children involved, you have 6 wives. But the only thing is that you're no longer with them, you are just with the new one, you're with the current one. But these other ones are still in your life courtesy of your children, unless they're doing better than you, then you may be slightly free. Free in the sense that you are now an irresponsible man, because because they will condition your children to see you as irresponsible. So you better be playing a role in your children's life if you deserve any kind of respect.

Don't get me wrong, when I say polygamy, women will say "are women also allowed to marry more than one husband?" For me, yes. If you get the money to keep the two, because I no go keep you for house, you keep another man, nawa for you. But if you're a successful woman, you have made so much money, one of Africa's richest women and you feel like one man go do you, you need like two or three. I swear, if you audition for men wey go accept that arrangement, them dey, them plenty. You will find three husbands that will follow you, straight. Today today. So, if a woman is successful and wants three men, should she? Yes. Society allow am. Otherwise, she go divorce this one, marry this one, divorce this one, marry this one, it's still three men. So, we never decide when we are ready to have that conversation. When we are ready to have that conversation, make we have that conversation. Nothing do polygamy.
