Why women look so good at gyms

Part 1 of "Understanding Women" Series

By The Learning LadsPublished 5 months ago 3 min read

You are sitting at the leg press, we’ve all been there before, near the end of the workout and close to that state where a nap on this particular piece of equipment sounds like a great idea. As per the usual, your eyes start wandering. Suddenly, they alight upon that forbidden yet tantalizing peach that always seems to occupy the squat rack at times like this. You quickly realize what is happening and steel your resolve. You have no time nor patience for lecturing by a Karen today.

Yet your brain starts thinking… I didn’t quite see the entire peach just now… what does the peach tree look like? Are there also sizeable melons? A shapely trunk? Flowing lichen locks? These questions overwhelm your exhausted brain, so you look again. This time intentionally, but avoid the objectifying glances and instead try to get a peek at her general appearance. “That is more respectful,” your mind thinks, not realizing the error it has made.

SHE KNOWS. She felt your gaze upon her fruits last time, and by the time you notice her gaze burning a hole into the side of your head it is too late. You glance again, and your eyes, while at first upon her eyes, glance at the fruits. All is lost, as you prepare for what you hope is a kindly hello and forgiveness, but fear is a lecture and a lengthy shout-down.

But why does she look so tantalizing in the first place? The primary reason for this, as we all know, is that those gym clothes hug the body tighter than children cling to legs when begging for toys, tighter even than a dwarf to his last bottle of rum for the evening. In doing so, they accentuate those parts of the female body that most draw the eyes, especially when tired at the gym. But there is another reason that we, as men, don’t ever have to worry about.

For women, especially if they have had coaching or done research, they are trying to build muscle only in specific areas and in very specific ways. The form that they use for weightlifting, and especially the weightlifting devices that they can use are limited and usually show off every area on the female body that naturally concentrates fat stores. A great example of this is shown when researching the most used devices by men and women. Half of the most popular gym devices used by women are for the glutes, hips, or thighs. The other portion of the female gym repertoire involves things that improve posture. In other words, the most popular gym machines for women show off either the butt or the breasts, and that makes a challenge for the lads.

With this in mind, men’s annoyance may be warranted but do remember that nobody dislikes an attractive woman more than other women who feel challenged by her beauty. Mate suppression is the primary way women fight for men after all, and the last thing she needs is the disapproving stares of men who are annoyed that her attractive features are on full and distracting display.

So, I hope this has helped clear up at least a little bit why women usually look so good at the gym. It is obviously simplified, but the differences in what women lift for are something I never knew about before finding a woman, so I thought the lads would like to know.

If you liked this short reflection on women or would like to post a critique, I welcome them with open arms. Until next time, when we shall yet again seek to understand women better as men.
