Why My Acting Used to Be Very Bad - Sharon Ooja

Sharon Ooja talks acting, future.

By Jide OkonjoPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Nollywood actress, Sharon Ooja has come a long way. She first broke into the national conciousness after appearing on the Ndani TV show, Skinny Girl in Transit. From there, she started booking more and more roles, and progressively as her career grew, so also did her acting prowess. It is not news to anybody at all that in her early days, Sharon Ooja was not the best actress. It was a very big criticism about her, and even she will admit, that those criticisms were valid.

These days, Sharon is doing a lot better. Her role in Oloture definitely showed us a new side to her, and since then she has gone on to do better acting jobs in Glamour Girls, The Perfect Arrangement, Flawsome, and more. During a new interview with The Top Charts Africa, Sharon Ooja explains why her acting used to be so poor before and where she sees herself in 10 years. Here is what Sharon said.

Speaking about how she got into acting and why her acting used to be so bad, Sharon Ooja said:

Early 2013, still in university, I got called by my aunty to do a modelling gig for a friend of hers and the friend happened to have a store by Ndani TV. So when I got there some lady called Toyin called me and said “I love the way you speak, have you ever thought of doing tv” and I was like “Nope”. She said “we’d like to do a show with you”. I got there I fumbled woefully because that was my first time, I didn’t have a clue about what I was doing, I had. Shortly after that the show never happened. Then I got contacted and they said I should play a role in Gidi up, after that Shalewa came along. I never opened my script until the day I got on set, if you watch season 1 you could tell I was just winging it through because I didn’t know exactly what was required of me and that was it. Soon after that show it was a ripple effect of producers calling me left right center asking “Who is that girl”. It took me years and years to get to the point I am now but I can proudly say I’m there now.

Then, speaking about where she sees herself in 10 years, Sharon Ooja said:

As Sharon I would be one of the biggest actresses to come out of Africa, I would be a big producer, probably with 5 kids (laughs) and I would definitely use my stories to tell a lot about Nigeria and Africa as a whole so 100% I’d be a force to reckon with from Africa
