Why Hollywood Is Not to Be Compared With Us AT ALL! - Kunle Remi
Kunle talks Hollywood, Nollywood

The Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) is most definitely on a steady come up in terms of bigger budgets, better productions, financing for our movies, etc. These days we're seeing more genres being explored that our movies of the past couldn't really dabble into well because of financial constraints. Cars are realistically flipping over, we're seeing explosion scenes that look real, we're getting action, adventure, thriller stories with better costuming, better lighting, better production. But still, as far as Nollywood has come, and we HAVE come a long way, people still always try to compare the Nigerian movie industry to Hollywood.
Nigerian actor Kunle Remi who has been in such blockbuster movies as A Naija Christmas, Anikulapo, Prophetess, Introducing the Kujus, and more is now speaking about this comparison between Nollywood and Hollywood. As a man who has also had his leg in the Hollywood space, he gives us a first hand take on what he thinks of the matter during a a new interview with The Will Downtown. Here is what Kunle Remi had to say.

Speaking about why he did not stay back in America and the Hollywood space even after getting an opportunity that many people don't get (going to the New York Film Academy to study acting and while there, getting an opportunity to host an Academy Awards nomination event in Beverly Hills) Kunle Remi said:
KUNLE REMI: Representing a station as the host of the Academy Awards nomination ceremony was a blessing I never saw coming, but I was in the right place at the right time. Speaking about wanting to stay back, people advised, as usual, that I stay back, but I held onto an abundance mindset, not that of scarcity, which allowed me to return home with ease and confidence that I would shine in my home country and then represent Nigeria on the global stage. I am on track!
My biggest takeaway [from New York Film Academy and time in Hollywood] is that credence must be given to the distinct nature of the two industries and audience expectations. And with that understanding, I am building my ammunition for my major directorial debut—so I can’t say much more than that for now.
Speaking about the constant comparisons between Hollywood and Nollywood, Kunle Remi said:
KUNLE REMI: Hollywood is not to be compared with our industry in any way or form. It’s not a competition. Nollywood is setting our bar, and we have everything we need to keep growing and raising the bar.

I totally agree with Kunle Remi, we as Nigerians should focus on the progress we're making and celebrate our own industry's growth for coming as far as we have instead of always comparing everything that we do here to Hollywood standards. Our productions are already getting better, and one day, I believe we will be at a level on par with any international movie standard in terms of graphics, production, and more.
