Why Folu Storms Dragged Filmmakers Who Are Still Carrying Their Movies to Cinema
"It is packaging"

Nigerian filmmakers Toyin Abraham and Funke Akindele-Bello have been celebrating these past two months after both of their movies, Ijakumo (Born Again Stripper) and Battle on Buka Street ended up having amazing box office numbers. Battle on Buka Street became the fastest Nollywood film to gross 400 million naira, a feat it achieved in only 20 days, while Ijakumo (Born Again Stripper) was able to make 164 million naira in 2 weeks.

By all accounts, these filmmakers are smashing it, and they are able to make these big numbers in sales because they showed their movies in cinemas and people came out to support it. But, you will think with such brilliant numbers coming from the cinema, everybody will want to go to the cinema with their own movie, or praise the cinema. Well, not everybody. Nollywood actress Folu Storms has some really choice words for people who are still hustling to take their movies to cinema, and some choice words for cinema in general here in Nigeria. Here is what Folu Storms said about cinema here in Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview with The Punch newspaper, Folu Storms said about cinema and people trying to enter it with their films:
I am confused why many people are still hustling to get into the cinema. While I think the cinema is great and there is a certain level of prestige attached to it, it is limited in terms of funds. Its visibility is also limited, especially in Nigeria. How many cinemas do we have in Nigeria? How many cinemas do we even have in Lagos? It is a case of your toilet not working at home and you are wearing designer shoes outside. It is packaging. Cinema is necessary for certain types of films. I do not believe everyone should be hustling into the cinema.
Filmmakers should desire the world to see their works. That is what our musicians have done. Are our musicians just clamouring to be heard in Lagos? They want their music to be global. You want the rest of the world to be your marketplace. That is the idea. That is my approach towards filmmaking. For anything we (entertainers) are doing in entertainment, we need to be stamping our stories globally and thinking about ownership. I am concerned about quality in the industry. That’s the biggest concern for me. I believe that whatever one is doing in life, one needs to do it to the best quality possible. It can be simple but it should be well done

The actress is currently starring on a drama series called "Crime and Justice" that is streaming exclusively on Showmax. Well, what do you think about what Folu Storms said?
