When Woman Meets Man

Chapter 3

By Desiree SmithPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

I realized my gum was no longer in my mouth as he led me by the hand into the house. We entered in through the back door which led to a vestibule with a small half bathroom, that then led to a large ranch style, eat-in kitchen. There was no table. The kitchen led to the living room. There was a huge tv and a large brown suede leather sectional, glass coffee table and end tables which each had burgundy and gold lamps. The pictures on the walls were all of African art using colors that matched the furniture. There were no curtains, instead there were black, blackout blinds. The hardwood floor had no carpet to center everything, if it had I would have instantly believed that a woman had decorated the place because it was so put together.

He led me to the couch. I sat and he disappeared to the back of the house only saying that he’d be right back. He walked as lightly as a cat. My eyes darted all about the room with all kinds of things running through my head. I hadn’t told anyone that I was coming here. What if he’s crazy and he comes from the back of the house with a machete and demands I give him head or something? Yeah, this was really smart April.

I saw some mail sitting on the coffee table. I quickly sifted through it to see if anyone else lived here with him. I was checking for any women names, especially one with his last name or worse a hyphenated name with his last name being at the end of the hyphen. There were only bills. All but one addressed to him. It was in a woman’s name. I was curious but it was not my place to ask him about it. I shouldn’t have been looking technically. But strangely it gave me some relief because I figured if he was a crazy killer rapist, he would have some explaining to do to whom ever this lady was who had this bill in her name when she came home. I grabbed the remote and sat back on the couch. It was very comfortable. I flipped a couple of channels on the Fios cable and he was soon coming back into the living room.

He reappeared and it looked as though he’d taken a quick shower and changed into a pair of sweatpants or joggers and a wife beater, white beater, whatever you call those little sleeveless white tshirts guys wear. Whatever they were I really enjoyed the view. “Thot pants,” I though to myself. Oh, he knows what he’s doing. Play it cool April.

“I thought I was going to have to come back there and find you,” I said as he entered the room.

“You should have,” he said jokingly as he sat back on the couch.

“Damn, I missed my opportunity,” I said and handed him the remote. “Here find us something to watch.”

He pulled out his phone and said, “I have something even better.” He went to an app and began scrolling through movie titles. Some of the names I recognized were in theaters now.

“Let’s watch the new Star Wars movie,” I said.

He looked over at me in disbelief. “You really do like the same movies as me.”

“Yeah, I told you I like them. I haven’t seen this one yet.” I chuckled.

He mirrored his phone to the tv so we could watch the movie on the big screen and just as the opening credits were coming on he got a notification from the dating app. Men are so dumb. I definitely did not want to see that he was still on the app after talking to me on the phone for so long but I guess I couldn’t expect more since I was after all, “the elusive April.” “Somebody has a crush on me,” he said in reference to the notification.

“Somebody can cancel their app subscription now that April is here.” I leaned my head on his shoulder and he wrapped his arm around my back to embrace me.

“We’ll see how long April sticks around and then the app can go. But you have to delete yours too.”

“You got it,” I said in reply and we watched the movie.
