When I Was Left Stranded, Only Faith Carried Me!

A true story of struggle, spiritual strength, and the quiet power of Tawakkul.

By Shahir Nazib RakibPublished 9 months ago 3 min read

I moved to Sylhet chasing a promise — a job offer from a school called RISE that felt like my shot at a better life. They spoke about opportunity, stability, and growth. It sounded perfect. The calm greenery of Sylhet was a bonus — a peaceful contrast to Dhaka’s chaos. I packed my bags, left behind what was familiar, and stepped into what I thought would be a dream come true.

But reality often hides behind a smile.

Soon after joining, the true face of the institution began to show. The principal, once warm and welcoming, became a source of constant anxiety. What began as subtle criticism evolved into personal attacks, control games, and psychological manipulation. It wasn’t just a toxic work environment — it felt like psychological warfare. I stayed silent for weeks, hoping things would improve.

They didn’t.

One day, I walked out — with nothing but my dignity intact. I had no backup plan, no financial cushion, and no one to lean on in that city. I was completely alone.

8 Months in Isolation

The next eight months were the hardest of my life. With no stable income and rent due every month, every day became a survival game. I lived off my savings, which disappeared far quicker than I expected. I applied for jobs, offered services, reached out to contacts — but no one replied.

People I had once helped were suddenly too busy. Calls went unanswered. Texts were seen and ignored. When you’re down, the world tends to go silent.

I should’ve broken. By all logic, I should have.

But I didn’t. And here’s why.

🕋 Tawakkul — The Anchor

Every night, I turned to Allah. I poured my heart out in dua. I wasn’t asking for riches — just a way out, or the strength to endure another day.

There’s a special kind of peace that comes when you leave your fate in the hands of the Almighty. Tawakkul — complete trust in Allah — became my shield.

“And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him.”(Qur’an 65:3)

It wasn’t just a verse. It was a lifeline.

There were days I truly didn’t know where my next meal would come from. Yet somehow, I never went hungry. A neighbor would bring food. A distant friend would invite me over. One time, someone mistakenly transferred money to my account and told me to keep it.

Coincidence? No. Provision. Rizq. Sent by the One who never forgets.

🧍‍♂️ Alone, But Not Broken

Those months in Sylhet stripped away everything I thought I needed — money, social approval, a prestigious job. And in that process, I found something more powerful: clarity.

I began to write more. Reflect more. I taught myself skills. I explored what it meant to live intentionally. I wasn’t chasing anymore — I was learning to receive.

Eventually, I returned to Dhaka. My situation hadn’t drastically improved financially, but I was different. I was no longer afraid of losing everything — because I had already survived that.

🌱 The Real Lesson

What I thought was the end turned out to be a beginning. That isolation wasn't a punishment — it was preparation.

Today, when someone tells me they’re struggling, I don’t offer empty motivation. I tell them the truth: you will be tested. You will feel abandoned. But you are never truly alone.

The world may turn away — but He never does.

🧭 Final Thoughts

If you’re reading this and going through your own storm, here’s my message to you:

Hold on. Cry if you must. Pray if you can. But don’t stop. You’re not forgotten. There’s a greater wisdom unfolding for you — even if it’s hidden for now.

Have Tawakkul. He never lets go.
