What is feminism? This topic often comes up in my conversations because I am an avid feminist. But everyone has different views of what feminism actually is, hence me placing the definition in the beggining of my article. I've heard men say feminism is "hating men." Although, I feel hate is a strong word I'm definitly not fond of men and I usually dont deal with them if I dont need to or if they dont serve a purpose, but I'm not sure if the two coincide. haha. I've also heard that feminism is the lack of feminity which I feel defeats the purpose of feminism. I think a woman should be able to be feminine and still be treated as a human being because, duh! We still are human. I think when women run away from their femininity to be treated equal thats the exact opposite of feminism. Running towards masculinity for equality proves that women in their femininity don't deserve equal rights. A woman shouldnt have to hide that she's a woman just to be treated humanely. Why can't a woman be dressed in pink and still treated as a human being. It's the 21st century. Women have rights, women have opinions, women can do all the things men can do and more; with more grace. Less violent testosterone. I'm not going to dress like a guy for respect because quite frankly, I dont want to be one of the guys. I love being a woman. I love all that woman are. Being able to bring life into this world is magical. All my curves are divine. My soft feminity and soft voice are powerful.
I knew I was a feminist when I was a child. I've always loved woman growing up, not in a sexual way but I would revere women and couldn't wait to grow up to be this beautiful, vulomptuous human being. When I heard my aunts misogynstic view of women I knew I wanted different.
I published my first novel "Falling In Love With A Sociopath" which is about a successful, powerful, young woman that empowers herself and overcomes a toxic and traumatic man which follows my feminist voice. I want woman to believe in themselves and overcome male abuse. Abuse doesnt have to be physical. If a man is intimidating a woman I want that woman to know her rights and know that she's as powerful as she chooses to be.
I've also heard men say that they think feminism is woman working and I personally agree. Yes, women can work if they want. Feminism is about choice. If I were to marry and have kids I would want to stay at home and be a full time mother. But like I said I think being a feminist is about embracing my feminism. Being able to create life in my body and stay at home with those kids and raise them is just as important of a job as the father that provides the finances for those lives. As a single, gorgous woman I provide for myself and I do way more than the breadcrumbs these lame dudes offer. I have the ability to make my own money and make more than a lot of men because of feminism and the women before me that used their voices to fight for our equality and freedom.
My whole point is a woman shouldn't have to hide her femininity for some respect. My feminism is not just for me—it’s for the women coming after me, the ones who will never again have to dim their shine to be accepted.
When you see me parading in my skintight dresses and embracing my beautiful body that is me embracing feminisim, in my opinion. There are other women that feel feminism is the contrary and I respect their choice for them.
Feminism is about living out loud. I can be glamorous on a Milan runway, confident in a courtroom, and reflective in my writing. Each side of me is feminist. I call myself a feminism activist because I live what I preach!
I’ve chosen celibacy in my 20s to reclaim my body. I’ve chosen to walk away from “complicated” men and messy dynamics because I refuse to be anyone’s second choice. I’ve chosen to speak publicly about lustful men who thought they could use their status to manipulate women into silence. And I’ve chosen to create my own spotlight instead of waiting for permission to shine.
That is feminism in action. It’s making choices that protect your peace, your body, and your legacy.
I want the women coming after me to know they never have to dim their shine, mute their truth, or accept less than they deserve. Feminism is not just for me—it’s for every girl who will stand taller because she saw me stand unafraid.
So, what is feminism to Tiffany Walker?
It is freedom.
It is voice.
It is my legacy.
