What I Say to People Who Criticize Me for Dressing Like Woman for Skits - Jay On Air
Jay gets honest

Nigerian skitmaker and radio personality, Jay On Air, is one of the funniest and most popular content creators in the country today. However, just like many skitmakers, Jay sometimes cross-dresses in some of his skits which some people have criticized skitmakers for doing.
During a new interview on Rubbin' Minds, Jay On Air spoke about wo he feels about this criticism, and if he thinks the criticism is fair. Here's what he said.

During his interview, Jay was asked "One of the biggest critiques about content creators, especially in these parts, is why do you need to cross-dress to be funny? Do you ever feel like that's a fair way to criticize what you do? Do you find that criticism as fair?" He responded:
JAY ON AIR: To be honest, not necessarily. Because you don't really know people's backgrounds or people's stories. I grew up with my mum so it makes sense that I'm influenced by women. I grew up with my mum and my sister and when I got into the workspace, I worked with a lot of women. For some reason, all my bosses have been women. I have never had a male boss - maybe, one or two - cuz I've done multiple jobs from being a personal assistant to a communications manager. So I've worked with a lot of women - you know, my mum's friends - so I've just had a lot of women around me so I think it makes sense that the characters I create are the characters I've been influenced by. But again, if you look at my videos, I try not to make a mockery of women. I'm just recreating. I call my style of comedy observational. So things that people see everyday and don't take as seriously, I recreate stuff from them. So I'm observing, I'm recreating. I'm not trying to make a mockery. There are certain jokes I will not obviously make - maybe rape jokes or abuse jokes, obviously I'm not going to go there. But I'm just recreating and making people say 'this could be you'. So that's why when you go to the comments section, you see people saying 'oh that's my mum, that's me, that's my boss, that's my friend' and these days, I'm also making male characters so everybody is getting something.
