What dies within us while we are alive?

A dive WITHIN..

By Shafaque ImamPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

One day while just sitting around and scrolling through the phone I came across a quote saying “Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies within us while we live.”

Like any random quote i read and scrolled it up only to end up downloading it on my phone.

I don't know for some reason it hit me deep and in no time i found myself sunk into an array of thoughts popping in my mind.

After diving deep inside i finally was able to comprehend what actually this quote meant/ should mean for us...

- What dies within us is our conscience that makes us indifferent to right and wrong. We

loose that guilt in our hearts when we’re doing wrong , be it with others or our own self!

- The ability to put ourselves in other’s shoes and opine about them positively. We never know what others are going through or what phase of life they are in.

- What dies within us is our warming and welcoming attitude which as a result pushes people away from us, perhaps when they’re in dire need of it. Just a simple example is that in most of our homes a child from the very beginning is continously under a pressure of doing or achieving "something" in life and career..Now this "something" embodies everything from the parents point of view..The passion and interests of the child lies nowhere in it..And as a result when those highly set demands are not met..the child falls prey to numerous negativities like lack of motivation, low self esteem and even self harm. This is one of the major reasons why depression and suicide has branched out in our society today. Parents should provide a constant emotional support irrespective of the performance of child..

- The death of the purity of heart that consequently makes room for all the ill feelings in it. Jealousy, hatred, arrogance, self conceit and many more.

- Death of that sympathy and empathy within, that doesn’t allow us to sense and feel what others are experiencing or suffering from. Their joys and sorrows, pain and struggle, tests and trials doesn’t affect our numb self.

- What dies within us is that selfless nature, consequently which fits us aptly in the definition of Selfish, which most often we don’t even realise.

Well, all these losses are the ultimate result of one greatest loss in our life :- Death of the consciousness of that supreme power, the Almighty. When we are constantly aware of the fact that we will be held accountable for our every action and reaction, then this becomes an impediment to our wrong ways, it restrains us from evils inside out and helps us do justice to the title “HUMANS”.

Undeniably, when we suffer from this GREATEST LOSS in our life, we’re dead virtually, which possibly is more threatening than the actual death..

Once we transform this loss into our triumph, this world would become a far better , a happier and peaceful place to inhabit..All we need is to wake up our souls and raise our standards of humanity..
