When I started writing "Mirror Image", I did so to give a pretty vulnerable but honest glimpse into the life of someone on the spectrum, especially a part of most people's everyday life that when it comes to Autistic people, we don't immediately think of them dating. Most people think of an autistic person and immediately think of a non-verbal kid who likes math and/or makes weird noises when they see animals. I know you think of that, and don't worry it's fine. That's what a lot of people have been exposed to, so that's the first image that comes to mind.

Mirror Image
I always knew I was a bit weird. Weird isn't something someone volunteers as a descriptor for themselves, they're told they're weird and after a time, you begin to agree with it. But I was weird. I was a very quiet kid, never very much to say, If I did speak it was usually about something I had read or seen on National Geographic. Yeah, I was one of those kids. I had no interest in games, star trek, star wars, etc. There was one channel on my TV at home that I cared about and that was National Geographic. I loved Animals, more than I did most people.

Plastered
Plaster is my medium of choice. Its purpose is a means-to-an-end of replication. Yet, when left in its rough, primitive state- as I like to leave it- its reflection is seldom right on the money: never perfect nor does it need to be. I love to plaster my friends and other women’s bodies. What was once a frivolous, fun craft to do in an afternoon has now become a sort-of cosmic healing journey to self-empowerment. I find the most immense amount of joy empowering other women using my plaster-craft as a body-positive celebration.
