The Song “Three Types of People” Highlights Loyalty and Growth
Thorne Empire Explores Loyalty and Growth in New Song “Three Types of People”

Hey everyone, it’s Thorne Empire.
I wanted to take a moment to talk to you about my song, “Three Types of People,” and share the story behind it. It came from a simple conversation I had with my sister, but it ended up unlocking something much deeper.
One day, we were talking about people; specifically, the ones who had come and gone in our lives. Some we were grateful for, some we missed, and some we had to learn to let go of. In the middle of that conversation, my sister said something that really hit me and stuck with me ever since.
She said:
“People in our lives are like parts of a tree. Some are leaves; temporary and unreliable, only there for a season before they fall away. Others are branches; present for a while but weak under pressure, breaking when times get tough. But the most valuable are the roots; strong, supportive, and often unseen, yet essential for our growth and stability. Recognize who’s who, and cherish the ones who truly hold you up.”
Man… that hit deep. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It was such a clear way to explain something we all feel but don’t always know how to express. And that’s what sparked the idea for “Three Types of People.”
I started writing right away. The lyrics flowed because the truth behind them was so real for me.
“Three types of people, let me break it down,
Some are like leaves, drifting all around,
They come and go, never staying long,
Blowing in the wind, like a lost song.
Branches stand tall, but they might break,
They bend, they sway, but they can’t always stay.
They help you grow, but when it's time to leave,
You gotta let go, or they'll make you grieve.
Roots run deep, they hold you tight,
Through every storm, through the darkest night.
They never leave, they never stray,
True ones stay, come what may...”
Leaves come and go. They’re not bad people; they just weren’t meant to stay. They show up in your life, maybe for a season, maybe to teach you something, maybe to help you grow. But eventually, they fall away.
Then you’ve got the branches. These ones feel stronger. They hold you up for a while. But when things get heavy, when life tests you; those branches can snap. And when they do, it hurts. I have felt that. I know some of you have too.
But the roots? The roots are special. The roots run deep. These are the people who hold you up when everything else falls apart. They don’t need to be in the spotlight. They might not always be loud or visible. But they’re solid. They’re constant. They’re the ones who stay.
“Roots run deep, they hold you tight,
Through every storm, through the darkest night...”
The message behind this song is simple, but powerful: recognize who’s who in your life. Don’t hold on to leaves, and don’t rely too heavily on weak branches. Focus your energy on the roots. Appreciate them. Keep them close.
And honestly, it’s not just about other people. This song made me reflect on who I want to be, too. Am I being a root for the people I love? Am I dependable when things get hard? Am I showing up even when no one sees it?
These are the kinds of questions that shaped this song, and I hope when you listen, it makes you reflect in the same way.
So, to everyone who’s been a root for me; you know who you are, thank you. And to everyone out there trying to figure out who’s really in your corner, I hope this song helps you see things a little more clearly.
