The Smile

On those days, where everything seems to be falling apart, when nothing makes sense and it all seems too much to handle, it’s that smile that makes my day. The smile that says I am here for you. The one that sometimes is boyish and silly, or serious and heartwarming. THAT smile lets me know everything will eventually be fine. The smile that I can read in an instant. The smile that needs no words.

It lights up a room like it lights up my life. It is the one constant that is always there, even on the days that I think it shouldn’t be. When I am crying, it is there to cheer me up. When I am angry, it is the one thing that calms me down. When I am lonely, it keeps me company and when I don’t want to see it… it arrives without hesitation.

Sometimes your smile makes me wonder what you are up to and sometimes I don’t necessarily want to know. There are times you use that smile to bring me out of my “funk” and other times it doesn’t work. Nonetheless you try. Once in a while I do not find that smile funny, like when I am trying to be serious.

It shows up unexpectedly when I need it most. It is something I can always count on to be there when other things let me down. It is bright and shiny and happy and makes me feel loved. But sometimes it is sad or worried and you hide it well (at least you think you do). Your smile when accompanied by the laughter, lets me know I did something right. Makes me feel good about myself.

It has many different meanings to me and I am so glad it is not just a smile. It shows me love and affection, it shows me happiness and joy, it shows me angelic and devilish. Most times, it is your smile that gets me through a tough time. When you give me “that smile”... I know I look WOW! I can’t imagine not seeing that smile. I don’t ever want to go a day without it. It has a warmth that surrounds me, a kindness that envelops me and a love that embraces every inch of my being.

It takes my pain away, makes me stronger, helps me see my potential and makes everyday worth living for. It is the first thing I see every morning and the last thing I see every night. It is beautiful yet simple. Strong and kind. That smile, YOUR smile, takes my breath away then helps me breathe again. Of all the things that are truly beautiful in this world, to me, that smile is the most beautiful.

Whether it’s across a crowded room or just the two of us that smile takes my breath away. I hope you never lose it and I hope I give you every reason to always use it. Without uttering a word your smile gives me hope, makes me believe in happiness and most importantly, makes ME smile. In a world filled with so many horrors, I love that smile. It’s what I need and want in my life. We should all see those kinds of smiles in our lives.

So thank you so much, from every part of me for your smile. For the way it makes me feel and it’s importance. It surely brings light to the darkest of days and is a beacon when I am lost. It is THAT smile that always brings me back to you.
