The Sign in the Sky

A Story About the Weather People and Their Symbol

By Akhter khanPublished 8 months ago 3 min read

A long time ago, in a quiet and peaceful village surrounded by hills and rivers, there lived a group of special people called the Weather People. These people had a rare gift — they could understand the language of the sky.

They could read the clouds, feel the wind, and tell when rain or sunshine was coming. They didn’t use machines or tools. They listened with their hearts and watched the sky with care. Every morning, they would climb the tallest hill near the village. There, they closed their eyes, opened their minds, and listened to the sky.

When they came back down, they would tell the villagers what kind of weather to expect. “It will rain today,” they would say. Or, “There will be sunshine until sunset.” The villagers trusted them, and life was good. Farmers planted seeds at the right time. Children played in the sun. People stayed safe from storms.

But as the village grew larger, things began to change. More people moved in. The village became busy, and not everyone remembered to ask the Weather People about the day. Some people didn’t believe them. Others were too busy to listen. Confusion began to spread. Some washed clothes on rainy days. Some forgot to bring their animals in before a storm. People didn’t know what to expect.

The Weather People saw the trouble and knew they had to do something. One night, they met at the top of the hill and sat under the stars. “We need a symbol,” said the eldest among them. “A sign everyone can see — simple, clear, and trusted.”

So they created a flag with four colors:

Yellow for sunny days,

Blue for rainy days,

White for snowy days,

Gray for cloudy days.

Every morning, after watching the sky, the Weather People would raise the flag with the correct color. The wind would carry it high for all to see. People no longer needed to ask. They simply looked up at the hill.

The villagers were happy again. The symbol made everything easier. Farmers knew when to water their crops. Fishermen knew when to stay on land. Children knew whether to take umbrellas or wear coats. It brought peace and understanding.

The Weather People continued their work for many years. But time passed, and they grew old. One by one, they left the hill and disappeared into the sky, becoming part of the clouds, the wind, and the sunshine they loved so much.

Though they were gone, the symbol stayed. The villagers never forgot it. They painted it on their walls. They taught it to their children. The flag still waved from the hill every morning, even when new ways of predicting weather arrived.

To this day, the village remembers the Weather People — those quiet, wise souls who once listened to the sky. And they still follow the simple symbol they left behind.

The sign in the sky became more than just a weather guide. It became a way of life — a way to respect nature, to live in harmony with the world, and to never forget that sometimes, the most powerful knowledge comes not from machines, but from quiet observation and deep understanding.

And so, the story of the Weather People lives on — in the wind, in the sky, and in the colors of a flag that still waves for all to see.
