The NC machine
How the little black book sealed our future

In the backyard beyond the gate there’s an empty Bayou and dry grass with sleet sticking to it like clear wet glue. In the background, the sound of the train and the crunching of the grass as the children take step after step. Into the grass steps Jeremy, a tall, lanky and handsome 12 year old boy, DeDe a tall slim pretty 9 year old girl and Jody, a fair height, handsome 13 year old boy. The kids are headed to school, they have on mesh back packs and large bubble coats to keep warm. Everyday the kids take the same route to school, they leave out of their back gate, which is located on the bayou. They have 2 friends tall husky geeky 10 year old kid named Zayver and small slim 12 year old kid named Nikki, that join them everyday as they walk to school together.
The school bell rings, alarming parents and students alike that the doors to the school are now open. The kids turn the corner and to the right stands the huge white brick school. Dilworth Preparatory School. The students walk into the school together as they do everyday. They do their special handshake as each person goes to their designated classes.
The chalk board reads
Ms. MoMo’s home development class, April 3, 2003.
The sound of the ovens alarm rings thru the class as Ms. MoMo hums as she takes the cake out of the oven. It glistens a golden color as thin bits of steam flow from the top of the cake.
The bell rings and as they exit the classroom. Ms. MoMo is handing out cakes on a small plate. Reminding the students to grab their textbook so that they can study for Thursdays pop quiz. Nikki walks over to the book shelf and grabs 2 books. One for her and one for Jeremy.
Jeremy is waiting for Nikki right at the end of the classrooms exit line as she goes to hand him his book she trips over the back of the desk dropping the textbook
Jeremy: Just clumsy
She rolls her eyes and bends down to grab the book.
Jeremy bends down to help her grab the rest of her things as well.
Jeremy: Looking for this?
Jeremy stands up straight and pulls a little black book from behind his back.
As Nikki looks up she grabs the text book from the floor and notices theres a square cut out in the textbook that could fit the very book that he’s holding.
Nikki: Try again. It came from your book. (She opens the book and shows him the cut out)
He notices a message on the inside cover of the book that read:
“”If you get this book keep it, open the little black book and it will change your life””
-JJN 98’
Jeremy looks up anxiously
Nikki senses that something is up. She hands him the text book and turns around in the line as if nothing just happened. As they hey exit the classroom. Jody is standing at the locker waiting on them.
Jeremy: We need to talk NOW!!!
He leads them to their secret spot under the hidden stairs near the gym.
Jody: Bro what is up with you?
Jeremy grabs his text book and hold it in the air as if he were a preacher holding up a bible.
Jeremy: This is going to change our lives
The bell echos through doors of the hidden stairwell
Jeremy opens his textbook and begins to read the message
He grabs the little black book out.
Nikki: Are you telling me Im missing AP Engineering so that you can read us your diary? Are we not still trying to be Astronomers?
Jody: WAIT!!!
Jody: It was real, the story your big brother told us was real.
Jeremy: It was real bro
Nikki: what story?
Jody: The legend is that during the time the school opened, 3 kids traveled here to the bayou to hide a special prize for themselves from the future.
Nikki looked a bit nervous and unsure.
Jody: Do you know what this means?
Jody and Jeremy began to jump for joy, Nikki joins them although she’s still a bit confused
Jeremy: Its time bro. Its time!!
Jody and Jeremy give each other a hug.
Nikki: Ok not to break up this blissful moment but I’m kinda lost. So you're telling me, some mystery kids told your brother that 3 mysterious kids would find some special prize?
Jody: Yes
Nikki: Ok tell me more
Jeremy: Do you remember in 2nd grade when the scientist from NASA came to our Science class?
Nikki: How can I forget? This is why we are the NASA crew till this day
She tugged at the front of her hoodie, as in to show her dedication to their goal to one day be Astronomers.
Her hoodie read:
Nasa Crew
-Nikki
Jeremy:Its all is apart of the story that my brother told us. I’ll be honest I started to think that things were just a coincidence, but today. Today when I saw this message and got this book it all began to add up.
Jeremy: My brother told me and Jody that one day we would find a prize right here in this school. They told us that in order to find the prize we would have to stay true to ourselves and make sure that we give 100% to all of our inventions, we would discover the prize and the prize would change our lives.
Jeremy opens the book and the book has a hole in the middle just like the textbook had, but this time there was a folded envelope in the middle taped down into the book so that it wouldn’t move.
He handed it to Nikki
Jody: You do the honors
Nikki grabbed the envelope and unfolded it. The front read
Jody Jeremy Nikki
Don't open until 2003
Nikki's heart filled with fear.
Jeremy: Go ahead open it
Nikki cut the seal of the envelope and reached inside. She pulled out a key with a tag, the tag read
Bayou Storage Locker #213
She then pulled out some folded papers that appeared to be letters. At the top of each letter it was a message for the designated reader.
They all looked at each other and began to smile at each other while lifting their papers in the air. The room began to spin as it slowed down. They huddled together and came up with a plan, after minutes of deliberation they did their handshake, and took a seat on the stairs. When the bell rang they walked out one by one.
Outside the school walls you can hear the bell rang off, as Jody, Jeremy and Nikki are tiptoeing out of the back gate of the school. They get out of the gate free and clear, leaving no trace.
They trail down the bayou until they reach Bayou Storage. Nikki grabs the key out of her pocket and hands it to Jeremy. He unlocks storage and pulls the door up. The storage has nothing but a piece of balled up paper in the corner. Jody darts towards the paper.
The paper read:
Read your notes!!!
They grab their notes.
Nikki note read:
Place your left hand
Jody note read:
On the left wall
Jeremy note read:
And push it in.
They all found a spot on the left wall and begin to push in.
Within seconds a golden beam of light begins to creep through the space. They all take a step back and watch as the wall begins to open. They walk into the open space.
Nikki: Its an elevator, an elevator really?
They began to look around to see if maybe there are buttons or a button that they can push, but there is nothing.
Jody gets a bright idea.
Jody: How about we all place our left hands on the left wall?
They do it.
The lights begin to flicker and the elevator begins to go down.
They release their hands from the wall and stand shoulder to shoulder.
The door opens and there is a state of the art lab.
They step out of the elevator and begin to walk around.
There are lab coats with their names and below their names it read NASA Crew. In the middle of the room there was a huge machine. It looked familiar. It looked like an advanced version of the machine they had been building since 3rd grade. They stood around the machine in admiration, each one of them touching it and admiring it.
Nikki: The prize ( she says softly)
Jody: It was well worth it.
Jeremy: You guys I don't think this is the only prize.
As Jody is walking around the machine he stumbles on a black paper bin.
Jody: You guys that may not be the only prize
Jeremy and Nikki head around the machine towards where Jody was.
Jody removes the lid and there is cash tons of it, and not only US currency, but currency from every major country.
There is currency dated from 2005 all the way to 2013.
Jody grabs the money and looks up at Jeremy and Nikki
Jody: We did it you guys.
Nikki: We did it (Nikki in tears)
Jeremy begins to walk away from the box and look around. He notices a $20 bill from 1998 with the initials JJN on it. Its framed on the wall right above the lab coats.
He stares at it and touches it in aww and admiration. He continues to look around and notices a note sitting on the lab table in the far left corner it read:
Nikki Jeremy Jody,
You will accomplish every dream that you have ever thought that you could and you’ll do it together. Don't let space nor time stop the grind. All you need is dedication, determination and hard work. Never pass on an opportunity no matter how hard it may seem. In the end it’ll all be worth it. Time travel is fun, it is cool, and it is innovative but without the process and the journey you are nothing. You need every mistake, every trial, every test to get you to where you want and need to be so enjoy the ride and enjoy the journey. O yea that machine is called “The NC machine”. Take a look around. Grab everything that you think you may need. Once one door closes another will open and one day in the future there will be a door that leads you right back here.
- Nasa Crew NJJ
Space nor time can stop the grind
Jeremey attempts to fold the letter in an effort to store it in his pocket but as he folds it. The letter begins to vanish. In mid air.
They all look at each other in disbelief but in their hearts they feel a load of optimism.
Jody: Empty your backpacks
Jody begins to grab his back pack and empty it. The others are a bit confused but begin to do the same.
Jody: Now fill them with everything we need to finish our machine.
They began to grab some things.
Nikki grabs cash.
She gets 20k in each currency.
Jody begins to grab tools
Jeremy begins to grab books/notes/and articles.
As the time winds down the room around them begins to slowly disappear and before you know it they are standing on the Bayou in white lab coats with their backpacks on.
They look at each other and smile.
They say in harmony
“Space nor time will stop this grind”
The End
