The first thing you need to do is quit refined and processed sugars. This includes foods in packages, sodas, candies, cakes, and breads. Too much sugar increases insulin levels, which signals your body to store more fat. If you don't burn off the sugar, it gets stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles, and excess sugars are converted to fats, primarily triglycerides. High triglycerides can lead to metabolic syndrome, blood pressure problems, cardiovascular issues, diabetes, and other systemic diseases.
You need to reduce excessive saturated fats and trans fats, and focus on unsaturated fats found in nuts, seeds, avocados, and fatty fish. However, soluble fiber interferes with this process, causing the trapped cholesterol and bile to be excreted from the body in feces. As a result, the liver uses more cholesterol from the blood to produce new bile acids, which helps lower LDL cholesterol levels.
Soluble fiber is a prebiotic, which helps nourish probiotics in your gut. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that keep your microbiome healthy and build your immune system.
