The Most Common Self Defense Weapons:
Self Defense Weapons

Self-defense weapons are any item used to inflict physical injury or death on a person when attacked. These weapons are designed for protection and have been used throughout history. Some people carry them for emergencies and some people just like the idea of being armed.
The most common defensive weapons are guns, knives, tasers, pepper spray and stun guns. The decision of which weapon to carry depends on who you want to protect yourself from, how willing you are to use it, durability of the weapon in different conditions and more factors.
Knives
Knives are the oldest self-defense tools and have been used throughout history. In fact even the soldiers of today, who carry guns, often carry a knife as a backup. They are useful for any situation where you can't or don't want to use your gun or you don't have one available.
It is useful for cutting rope and cords, skinning animals and much more. Many people just like how it looks also. Swords were some of the first defensive weapons used in history. They can be very intimidating which will help in some situations that could otherwise escalate into violence.
Guns
There are many misconceptions about weapons that have real consequences. One of the most common is that guns are only useful for self defense. The truth is, guns aren't always justifiable as a weapon. They can cause great harm, injury and bleed to innocents if they're not used appropriately or in the right circumstances.
One of these cases includes when someone is threatened by an animal such as a wild dog or even an aggressive animal such as a bear. In this case, there would be no way to defend yourself with a gun without causing harm to either one of them.
Tasers
Tasers are great self-defense weapons because they can stop someone without actually hurting them. When they first came out, Tasers were used mostly by the military and police to incapacitate people who were a threat. The Taser was designed to discharge electrodes that would create an electric current between two points of contact
The main idea behind the Taser is that it only hurts when it’s shooting you with two electrodes simultaneously and it shoots at your muscles so you go limp as you get shot
The result of a taser is usually temporary incapacitation rather than death, which makes it an attractive option for those who want self-defense but don't want to kill another human being.
Pepper Spray
For self defense, there's no denying that pepper spray is the best choice. It can stop most attackers in their tracks—and it's the safest method for both you and your attacker. Sprays need to be handled with care, but they're a great last resort if attacked.
If a human inhales enough of the spray, it can be lethal. However, that amount is much higher than what is used for self-defense applications. In those cases, death is unlikely no matter how much pepper spray was sprayed in the attacker's face.
It's even very unlikely if two or more cans are sprayed directly into the eyes or mouth. The maximum theoretical amount one can safely inhale at one time is 4 ounces (118ml). Some states set a legal concentration limit at 10% and pepper sprays typically contain between 2%-10%.
Stun Guns
A stun gun is also known as an electroshock device. These are the latest self defense weapons. A stun gun has two parts: a handheld transmitter and a pocket-sized receiver. When someone with the receiver comes in contact with the transmitter, electricity is sent through the air to immobilize their target.
They can be used by law enforcement officers and civilians alike, but they are most commonly used by those in need of self defense against violent attackers such as muggers or rapists. In fact, one study showed that between 1994 and 2003 there were over 25 million cases where people used a stun gun to fight off attackers.
Importance of Defensive Weapons!
It is not enough for you to be skilled in a martial art, or for you to have studied self defense. You need a weapon too! There are a lot of self defense weapons to choose from. In the event of an attack, fighting back with your fists (or feet) may not be enough, and carrying a firearm is often impractical. The best bet?
A small folding knife that can be easily concealed. A stun gun can be carried easily and there are so many other options for you in order to defend yourself. Unless you're living on an island with no law enforcement whatsoever, owning and carrying this type of item could save your life—or even end it instantly and give the attacker something else to think about.
