The Mandela Effect: Are We Living in a Glitch in The Matrix?

My Cousin Forgot Something That Definitely Happened...

Alright, so you must have had one of those moments where you are certain that you recall something, but everyone just looks at you like you just came from outer space. You know what happened, but apparently nobody else does. You remember a fellow who wore a red shirt and now is wearing blue and suddenly, you've lost it. Yeah, that's exactly what happened to me.

Okay, take me back about a couple of months. So, my cousin started this job at an insurance company in Mumbai. The office was so she needed to leave at 6:00 AM. Even had the company send her car to pick her up. Nice, right? Who doesn't love riding around like royalty? Only she said that the daily commute was making her extremely ill. Motion sickness. Daily. The unfortunate individual was unable to appreciate the experience without experiencing dizziness.

A few days ago, I texted her, “How’s the motion sickness? Still a thing?” She replied, “What motion sickness?”

Wait, what? I was convinced she had mentioned it before. I can't even recall her saying, "I get nauseous every time I travel to work." But according to her, that conversation never took place. Either she’s experiencing some sort of memory loss, or I’m stuck in a strange version of The Matrix.

Now, I’m sitting there, staring at the text, wondering, “Did I just imagine this whole thing? Did I dream up this conversation?” But no, I know what I heard. I know what I remember. And I’m pretty sure she just forgot.

And, what do we do when confronted with such scenarios? Certainly, we turn to the Mandela Effect as, well, why not? If reality's a buggy computer, then it's probably worth fixing. The Mandela Effect is that strange effect that describes the phenomenon in which a significant portion of people recall events in a certain way, when, in reality, it never actually happened that way. It's like when countless people believed Nelson Mandela died in the 1980s, even though he didn't pass away until 2013. But hey, reality can be quite strange, right?

I began to tumble down into the rabbit hole of the Mandela Effect, reading about how people misremember events and facts, and it started to feel suspiciously familiar. And wait, this sounds like The Matrix! You know, the one where Neo finds out that the world he is living in is not real and glitches start to pop up all around him? Yep, that’s how I felt. If you’ve seen the movie, you know very well what I am talking about.

Then it struck me: What if it were all a simulation and every so often, like my cousin’s “forgotten” motion sickness, there’s a minor glitch on the system? Now it makes sense. Maybe some glitches in reality are just the system’s way of trying to hide what is behind. Or maybe it’s just a grand cosmic game, and sometimes the simulation just doesn’t sync up right.

But actually don’t get me wrong-I am not claiming nor supporter that all the things we experience are concocted by some people behind the curtain like we are living in a simulation; so no crazy idea! It’s just that there seems to be something funny in a way how something as simple as a memory glitch can make you feel there’s a little more to this; probably a lot of it is due to my exposure to The Matrix (hey, I’m a fan, okay). Or maybe, just maybe, we exist in a glitchy reality where everything doesn’t quite add up.

Hey, I’m not claiming to be right on this one; it’s an invitation for thought. It could be mere memory distortion, or it could be a little more than that. Who knows? What concerned me, though, was that I was not the only one who questioned reality.
