The Magic of Kindness
A stranger’s help turns a dark day into a bright one.

Sarah was a little girl who lived in a busy city with tall skyscrapers, noisy roads, and never-ending crowds. Even though there was chaos everywhere around her, Sarah always felt peaceful in her art. She enjoyed drawing and painting, and her greatest aspiration was to be a professional artist when she grew up. Her family was not very rich, but they always supported her to pursue her passion.
Each Saturday afternoon, Sarah would fill her sketchbook and pencils and set off to the city park. She would sit on a bench for hours, drawing the world around her kids playing, dogs running about, elderly couples strolling hand in hand, and birds flying overhead. These little moments inspired her the most.
Sarah was taking her usual walk to the park on one cold winter afternoon when dark clouds suddenly filled the sky. Heavy rain began pouring in minutes. Sarah had no umbrella with her, and soon she was thoroughly soaked. She clutched her sketchbook tightly against her drawings and ran to the nearest bus station for refuge.
Cold, wet, and a bit frustrated, Sarah stood shivering under the little shelter, hoping the rain would let up. Just then, she saw an older woman standing nearby, struggling to make her way with several heavy bags of groceries. The woman was tired and having trouble walking on the slick pavement.
Without hesitation, Sarah ran over to assist. "Excuse me, can I assist you in carrying these?" she said with a smile. The older woman smiled back, her eyes lighting up with gratitude. "Oh, thank you ever so much, dear. That's very thoughtful of you," she said.
Sarah assisted her in carrying the bags to a nearby bench and ensured the woman was safe and at ease. They began talking, and Sarah found out that the lady's name was Mrs. Thompson. She was living alone and did not have many people to assist her. Mrs. Thompson, on her part, inquired about Sarah's life and aspirations. Sarah told her how much she loved art and how she wished to become an artist, although it was challenging since art materials were costly.
Mrs. Thompson listened attentively, her warm and understanding eyes fixed on Sarah. Eventually, the rain ceased, and the clouds started to clear. Mrs. Thompson rose, smiled, and handed Sarah a small gift-wrapped box from one of her shopping bags. "This is a little present for your kindness," she whispered. "Open it when you arrive home.
Sarah was shocked but thanked Mrs. Thompson graciously. She assisted her in taking the rest of her luggage home and then hurried back to her own residence, eager to find out what was in the enigmatic box.
When she opened it, her eyes were filled with wonder. Inside was a stunning set of watercolor paints the kind that she had always wanted but couldn't possibly afford. With the paints was a note written by hand stating: "Kind hearts deserve beautiful colors. Keep painting the world with your kindness."
Sarah was swept away with happiness. She could not believe that her little act of kindness had given her something so beautiful in return. On that day, she learned a very valuable lesson: kindness has the ability to come back to you in the most unexpected and enchanting ways.
Years went by, and Sarah never ceased to paint. She became a successful artist, famous for her cheerful and sincere paintings. But however successful she became in life, she never forgot that rainy day or the generous old lady who had provided her with the support she needed.
Sarah vowed that day to be a helper for the rest of her life just like she had helped Mrs. Thompson. Because she realized through experience that the smallest kindness could make the darkest day better for someone.
Moral:
Kindness is a boomerang it returns to you sooner or later in ways you may never have even thought of.
