I love being idle. Staring at the sky, the wall, or absolutely nothing used to be my thing. Keeping life simple was my way of living. And let me tell you, some of my best thoughts zoomed through my head during those glorious boredom phases. That is when your mind is still, free from worries, and suddenly you are solving life's mysteries or at least deciding what is for dinner.

But that's not the case anymore. Life has become a never ending sprint. The "Art of Doing Nothing" has been replaced by the "Art of Doing Everything." 

Multitasking is the new mantra, and it's stolen our peace. Everyone's obsessed with being busy. Want to freak someone out? The next time they ask about your weekend plans, just say, "Nothing or I don't have any plans or I wish to be free." Watch their expressions as if you have just declared you're moving to Mars.

Is there any Science or logic to support your views?

The idea that doing nothing makes you fall behind is totally wrong. In fact, doing nothing might just be the secret sauce to staying sane. Neuroscience even backs this up! 

When you let your mind wander, you activate something called the "default mode network." (Sounds fancy, right?) This is when your brain takes a breather from problem-solving and starts processing emotions, making connections, and sparking creativity.

Turns out, your brain needs to rest. Sure, it's great at intense action, but it also thrives on idleness. When you are bored, your mind starts exploring new ideas and solving problems you didn't even know you had. So, the next time you are about to mindlessly scroll through your phone, stop. Let the boredom set in. Who knows? You might just stumble upon your next brilliant idea or at least remember where you left your keys.

Take a Break

Take a break from planning every second of your day. Block out a little time where nothing is on the agenda. I really mean nothing. Like no emails, no errands, no screens. Just sit back, relax, and let your mind wander. It is amazing how freeing it feels to be intentionally unproductive.

Put your phone down and step away from the constant pings and notifications. Go ahead, leave it in another room if you dare. Let the silence settle in and watch as your thoughts take center stage. It's like giving your brain a much-needed vacation.

Remember when watching clouds or doodling was a legitimate pastime? Bring those simple joys back into your life. Stare at the sky, sit in a park, or just sip your coffee without multitasking. These little moments can be surprisingly therapeutic.

If you are going to embrace idleness, do it in comfort. Wrap yourself in a blanket, sink into your favorite chair, and just exist. No to-do lists, no productivity hacks, just you and your thoughts.

Take these small steps, because sometimes, the best way to move forward is to sit back and let life catch up with you.

After reading this, close your laptop or put your phone down and just sit. Take a few deep breaths and notice how you feel. Is it awkward? Good. That's your brain detoxing from overstimulation. Keep at it, you might find you enjoy the quiet more than you expected.

So, the next time someone asks what you are up to, confidently say, "Doing nothing and loving every second of it!" After all, in a world this chaotic, doing nothing might just be the ultimate life hack.
