I don't tend to do personal writing, but sometimes you just have to get things off your chest.
2020 and Covid will be a part of history. A big part of history. There's no doubt about that. Whether you believe it's real, or not, the likelihood is that it has affected your life in one way or another. If not, you're possibly one of the lucky few.
As of writing this article, there have been over 4.3 million deaths from COVID-19. (source: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/)
That's just the immediate affects of COVID-19.
But one thing that jumped out and has been occurring to me over the last several months now is that the indirect results of COVID-19 are longer lasting.
- Hunger
- Job losses
- Depression
- Loneliness
- Economic
- Homelessness
- Divorce
- Illnesses due to lack of medical care, as concentration on COVID
The list goes on and on.
For me personally, I believe I had COVID in the early stages, but not enough to make me seriously ill. I know people who have been seriously ill with COVID. But that's not what has affected me directly the most.
Me and my partner live 4000 miles apart. He is in America, I am in the UK.
The last time I saw him in person was a week before the first lock down started in March 2020. I had a gut feeling when I left him then, that it was going to be a long time before I could go back. Unfortunately I was right.
We are still together, and strong, but it has affected us in so many ways that it has been extremely difficult. I definitely have a lot more grey hair than I had a year ago!
The Covid Hole
We have become different people, and lost ourselves in the fear of this virus. Every decision we have made, from quitting jobs to where and who we live with has all been been based around a virus that is still out of control in some places. Still killing people. We have both had financial difficulties, health issues and depression during this past year and a half. That's without going into detail. I am sure many people have had similar or worse problems than us. In the Covid Hole.
The Covid Hole is a place a lot of us have probably been in over the last 18 months. Whether you have been struggling financially or emotionally as an indirect result of Covid. It's a fight to get out of it. Some of us will be dragging ourselves out of the Covid hole for months and years to come.
Here's the thing, whether you believe in this virus or not, you have to consider the bigger picture of how your actions are affecting others. My partner and I have decided to start trying to get back to some normality in our lives, but safely. Stopping living in so much fear. We are still gong to be wearing masks, washing our hands and keeping a safe distance from people wherever possible. Not only for ourselves, but for others too. We understand that there are other issues that are happening as an indirect result of COVID too, and want to play our part in making sure this virus becomes less of a war we have to fight, and become controllable.
Some interesting statistics from Worldometer, not Covid related.
As a side note, you should check out the ever changing data on this site: Worldometer. Have a real good look and sit back and let some of those stats sink in.
At the point of looking at this there are 789,027,315 Obese people in the world. 27,269People who died of hunger today. Do the math. We are an over indulgent and completely selfish society and human race as a whole...... That's no OK!
