The Café

It’s a cold winter afternoon. You enter a café to get some warmth. You notice a fire place & an empty chair. You run over to gather as much heat as possible. The tale continues...

In a cafe so small & chické, I stand near the fire warming my hands. The cold winds become so loud the doors start to clap as if someone is banging to symbols together. Contemplating my next move, someone walks up to me with a kitchen vest. “Do you need anything sir?” He asks. “Yes, I’ll have a salted caramel hot chocolate. Thank you”

He takes out a notepad. Blue cover with the rings. Takes out a green pen with a label in the center of the cafe. He writes down my order, “anything else?” He double checks, “that’s all. I like your pen, it matches your hair.” me trying to flirt with him. His hair was a dark green mixed in with black. Black must be his original hair color but the way its blended with the dark green made the look all too mysterious. His hair was short & spiked with a sharp curl in the front. Like the character “Cloud” from Final Fantasy. “Oh thank you!” He blushes.

He puts the notepad & pen in his pocket & walks away trying to hide his expression, On his way behind the counter he hits his foot right on the table legs, “OW!” he lets out a high pitch screech alerting the surrounding customers. Blushing in embarrassment he runs to the back, through the double doors to hide from what he went through.

The cafe is not that big. Well, its big enough to look like a hotel. Two double doors in the entrance. One that leads to the outside & another that’s right after to help keep the cold and windy weather at bay. When there’s people going in & out of the cafe, you can hear that cold blistering winds coming from the outside. As you enter the cafe, you see the display of pastries & blackboard on top with the menu of items to choose from. The blackboard is black but the writing on the board is a bright forest green so everyone can see it. The display of pastries is solid glass where the boarders are forest green as well & the rest of the counter top that is a dark oak color.

Speaking of oak the smell as you walk in, is of oak & cedar because the fireplace that is on the left side of the cafe when you walk in, uses oak & cedar wood. This helps to give ambiance to the place as well as match all the forest green you see everywhere. All the furniture is a mix of dark green & forest green colors to match the aesthetic. They’re hardwood floors & coat racks on each side of the cafe so there’s a chance for people to relieve some weights off their shoulders.

Between the two doors there a station where automatic hand sanitizers are being held & sprays. There’s scanners in the entry way that rings when a high temperature goes up. Similar to those scanners in the airport but more aesthetically pleasing. Thick boarders around the second entrance that turns bright red when activated. A rubber mat that surrounds the area between the two entrances to keep people safe.

Five minutes go by & the guy with the dark green hair exits from the double doors that lead to the kitchen in the back. He has a serving tray with three items. Two coffee mugs & a plate that holds two pastries. “That must be mine” as I think to myself. I see him approach me as if to provide me with my order, but he passes me to approach the couple that’s across from me. “Here you guys go.” He says to them. I gasp in disappointment that he doesn’t have my order but I give a small smirk to see him from a different angle as he serves the items to the couple across from me.

My chair is across from a cedar oak round table that’s big enough for eight people. On the other side of the table is the fire place & on the left side of the table is a small sofa (dark green of course) which is where the couple resides. The man is wearing a brown coat with four buttons in the center. A brown & white button down shirt & black pants. His partner has long brunette hair with leopard print round glasses. She’s has a blue book in her left hand that reads, “How to survive in a world that’s barely surviving”. She’s wearing a black coat that drips down. Checkered blouse with a floral skirt & pants that matches the rest of her outfit.

“A flat white drip coffee for the lady & a peppermint mocha for the gentleman.” The green hair guy says as he gives them their order. “The taro croissants are ours too” the man explains as he extends his hands to get the plate from the server. The man throws the server off by crossing the server as he gives the woman her drink forcing him to drop the plate to the floor (The area where the table & couches are has a dark green oak carpet by the way).

“You idiot! Look what you did!” The man yells at the server. I get off my chair to approach & help the server. “Here let me help” I say in a soft voice as I pick up the fallen plate of food. The server looks at me with a pleased look. He then turns to the gentleman, “I’m sorry sir. I’ll give you a new one right away.” He gather the remains of the food & walks to the back where the double doors are & before he disappears into the clusters of busy staff workers, he looks back at me to give a cute smirk.

Waiting for my order & the rude gentleman who cause his order to fall to the floor, on the other side of the café to the right, lies tables & chairs along the display case where the merchandise & line begins. On the sides of the entrance are two large windows, each having black drapes with green & brown coffee logos on them to keep the warm temperature inside & the cold air outside.

A large black piano sits on the right side of the cafe with a bench fit for two. A small bench the leans on the wall that leads to the drapes right next to the wall of the merchandise. I look over from the left side of the cafe towards the piano on the right side to see a man in a tux sitting where the piano player would sit. His hair is a dark brown color. Wavy with a curl in the front that covers the right side of the eyes. A handkerchief in the pocket square that’s the same color as everything else in the cafe. “He must work here” I say in my head. I continue, “wait a minute. I recognize him from somewhere. Is that…”
