I know it's hard. On Sunday you were scrolling through social media and everyone had their hearts and flowers from their lovers. Celebrities were boasting on Instagram their romantic getaways and extreme Valentine parties with roses and red balloons scattered around their mansions. Then there's you. Watching it all unfold whilst you're going through a difficult break up that happened just before the most romantic day of the year.

I know how it feels and I understand your heartache and frustration as I went through a horrible break up last year on the 31st of January.

We'd been together for three years and he was my first time in everything. First date, first kiss, first holiday. It was special and I wouldn't change one thing about the relationship we had. The time we spent together was too good to be true as our relationship seemed to be the ones you would watch in those loving movies that makes you want to cry. Unfortunately, there came a time towards the end of our relationship where he lost the feelings he had for me. I don't know what I did wrong and I still don't know to this day but he called it off through a phone call whilst I was in the middle of ordering his Valentine's day gift. Luckily I didn't press the 'checkout' button otherwise that would of been a whole lot of money wasted, but my mind was shattered in pieces as I couldn't quite work out what just happened.

Last year February was probably one of the most difficult months I had dealt with throughout 2020, the break up that I went through was horrible to begin with as coffee shops, supermarkets, hairdressers and even the pet shops were decorated in love hearts and filled with bouquets of flowers for Valentines day. This pretty much sucked for me as anything related to 'that day' just reminded me of my ex and I couldn't bare to see people being in love. However, time went on and a couple of days after Valentines I started to feel much better with how things went between him and I. It was still quite difficult to get over him as I was going through all the pictures we took together for the three years of our relationship but four special ladies named Jesy, Perrie, Leigh-Ann and Jade made me feel a lot better when I was going through the aftermath of the break up.

Let me introduce you to Little Mix

If you know about Little Mix and are a big fan of them then you have awesome taste in music so please skip ahead to the next paragraph. If you don't then stay with me here.

Believe it or not Little Mix are the world's biggest girl band and have sold over 50 million records worldwide making them one of the best selling girl groups of all time. The group was formed back in 2011 on the original X-Factor series and have been making record breaking singles and albums for the past nine years in the UK and around the world. The group are known for making records and albums based on female empowerment, break up songs and unity amongst others alongside their impressive vocal ability and serenading harmonies that are shown throughout the tracks.

During my terrible break up from last year, I was able to cope with the disappointment and tears whenever I listened to Little Mix as their songs helped me get through the tough stages of the break up. It was hard to begin with but Little Mix kept me alive and in good spirit through their iconic empowerment songs songs such as "Shout Out To My Ex" that eventually got me back to being the joyous person I am today.

So if your going through the aftermath of a break up right now, then I'm glad you're here. I'm about to share with you my little Mix playlist for getting through a break up during this Valentine season. There are five main songs that I highly recommend listening to as these were the anthems that really pushed me through my rough phase. I promise you'll get through your break up as soon as you know if you take the time to listen to Little Mix. These ladies sure know how to produce amazing upbeat tracks about self love and confidence on being single that you'll definitely need to hear. They'll helped you get through the aftermath of your break up in the same way it did for me, so let's go straight into the playlist and the songs that will get you feeling good about single.

I present to you the Little Mix aftermath break up playlist

Main Song #1 F.U

Yep it's in the title. "F.U" we all know what it stands for, and there couldn't be a better song by Little Mix to remind you that he or she is not worth it. The first couple of days of my break up I was confused and aggravated into what happened between us. I was annoyed and conflicted at myself for not being the best girlfriend that I could be. Valentines day was just around the corner and I couldn't bare the reality of not spending V-day with him as we always made an effort to impress one another by splurging out on lushes gifts that no one else can give besides from us. Then somehow out of nowhere "F.U" started playing on my Spotify whilst I was in my room eating Sugarfina candy that he got me a couple of months ago.

As soon as I got into the track I immediately stopped eating the candy and reminded myself that he's not worth any of my tears. Once the track finished playing, I spent time deleting all the photos of my ex from my phone and re-gifting majority of the presents that he got me to people that I didn't really like.

Don't judge, I know you're guilty too of doing this too at some point.

It felt as if this song was a wake up call from the universe to notify me that I need to get back to being me and stop to getting upset over the break up. People break up all the time, it's human and we all go through it but the truth is I will experience more break ups in my life time but that's just how we grow and find love within ourselves for wanting we want out of relationship. No matter how many heartbreaks I go through, this song will always be there to remind me that my ex and future exes will never be suited for me, especially if they're loyal and have cheated on me.

Best Lyrics of the song

You're dirty, disgusting

But I can't get enough of your loving

Boy, I hate you, really hate you

My momma said I shouldn't date you

You cheatin', you lyin', I know that you're hiding two cellphones

But boy, right before I say that it's the end

You sweet talk me again, yo

I don't wanna be friends, no

Why am I such a fool when it comes to you?

A, B, C, D, E, F.U.

You may have noticed the first two lines of the lyrics above clearly demonstrates how terrible of a person the ex lover was but then it brings its back to the love that the couple had. These were the words that hit me the most as there was definite love between my ex and I despite how things ended between us. But of course the the final line of the chorus just gave a reminder to say "F.U" to him as there will always be someone else waiting in line to have me next. So I guess that puts in perspective to what the song is all about. Your former lover was disgusting and horrible but you were with them because you had love, then time goes on and you need to say "screw them". On top of that, Little Mix made the song very powerful by singing through their emotions as each member (especially leigh-Ann), belted their vocal cords towards the end of the song to emphasise the hatred to whoever they were singing about.

So if you need a reminder that you ex lover is no longer a part of your life then this is the song you need to listen to.

Main Song #2 Shout Out To My Ex

I mentioned this song earlier and it has to be one of my all time favourite songs by Little Mix. The song was the lead single to their fourth studio album Glory Days and "F.U" is also on this album. You may have already guessed what the song is all about so it's no surprise that this upbeat track is featured as one of the main songs of my little Mix playlist.

There is a time in most aftermaths of break ups where everyone goes through the phase of being hurt and angry at what the situation has come to. But then there's a stage where you realise that everything is ok and you appreciate what an experience you had with your ex. So then its comes to thanking your ex for the relationship you had and realizing that you've moved on with strength, courage and happiness of being single. "Shout Out To My Ex" was the anthem for me that gave joy and wisdom throughout last year's Valentines season. I was happy to be single after getting out of a three year relationship even though is was hard to let him go.

Amongst of all the love hearts and roses in many shops and houses around my neighbourhood, I decided to shower myself in pink hearts and bought myself chocolates for being so happy with being a "free women". My ex taught me a lot a things and valuable lessons that I will forever cherish but at least I don't have worry about wasting my precious coins on buying gifts and not staying up late on a Sunday to do a facetime session with him. But of course "Shout Out To My Ex" helped me break through my miserable shell and unleashed that happiness that was within me.

Best Lyrics of the Song

Guess I should say thank you

For the hate yous and the tattoos

Oh baby, I'm cool by the way

Ain't sure I loved you anyway

Go 'head, babe, I'mma live my life, my life, yeah

Shout out to my ex, you're really quite the man

You made my heart break and that made me who I am

Here's to my ex, hey, look at me now

Well, I, I'm all the way up

I swear you'll never bring me down

"You made my heart break and that made who I am" is the line that I could not agree with more when it came accepting the reality of it all. Whether your saying goodbye to your first crush or saying goodbye to a long term boyfriend or girlfriend, just remember the reason why you had feelings for them in the first place hence why your heartbroken. But you just remember that he or she gave you something to be grateful for that has made you realise what you want for yourself or for the next relationship that you'll be in. This song perfectly demonstrates this idea of turning a negative situation that you were into positivity. Little Mix only accepts good vibes into their songs so there's nothing better than listening to an uplifting track about your ex.

I highly recommend giving this song a listen if your still feeling disappointed about your recent break up. Instead of being broken hearted, try to see the good in your breakup. The song promotes a positive light in a break up that you will leave you feeling cheerful and fortunate for saying no more to tears and sorrow. Once you've listened to the song a couple of times, you'll be buying yourself chocolate hearts and have no more sad song playing through your headphones.

Main Song #3 No More Sad Songs

Same album, different track, I think Glory Days and LM5 are my favourite albums by Little Mix as majority of the songs on this playlist are from these two albums.

I don't think you need much of an explanation to know what this song glorifies. On Valentine's day, I bet most of you who just went through a break up were hoping and wishing that he or she could of stayed with you for a bit longer just so you can be given romantic presents. Well I hate to break it you but it happened near V-day and be thankful that it did. So I don't want you to listen to ballads about breaking hearts or slow songs about love and affection. Just be accepting of the situation that your in and celebrate your new single life.

"No More Sad Songs" is one of the first songs of the playlist as its sets the tone for how you should be feeling after your break up. Just because everyone else is bragging about their V-day experiences doesn't mean that you can't have V-day experience for yourself whilst being single. And who's say it has to last one day. My single V-day experience last year happened throughout the entire month of February as I was giving myself nothing but love and self-confidence for who I am. So I encourage you to do the same if you feel as if your nobody without a romantic partner. Your worth deserves the love you gave for your ex but just ten times more. This song will give you the boost to play no more sad songs and will only encourage you to keep on listening to Little Mix's dance pop tracks.

Best lyrics to the song

I'm beggin', please, don't play

No more! (Sad songs)

No more! (Sad songs)

No more! (Sad songs)

I'm beggin', please, don't play

No more! (Sad songs)

No more! (Sad songs)

No more! (Sad songs)

I'm beggin', please, don't play no more sad songs

Yep! This is the chorus and these are the only words that I took away from the song but its insinuating that we don't need to hear those slow boring songs so we'll just turn up the music and dance around to songs that make us feel good about ourselves. If you listen to the actual song itself, Little Mix are literally shouting out "No More!" as no one wants to be drained down by slow music. I highly do encourage you to play this song if you ever feel the need to switch things up from slow ballads as these songs will only enhance the side effects of the break up even more. This Valentine's season I just want you to be in a good mood and treat yourself with flowers and heart-shaped cookies. Little Mix will here to keep your mood going with there self love anthems that will remind you to be happy and single. So this swiftly brings me on to the next main song which is finally on another album by Little Mix.

Main Song #4 Joan Of Arc (My Absolute Favourite)

"No More Sad Songs" gave an introduction to how your evenings will be spent listening to Little Mix during or after the Valentines season, so now let's dive into the ultimate self empowerment tunes for the 4th and 5th main songs so you can continue loving yourself whether your single or not 365 days of the year.

I couldn't believe I never heard of this song until last year. It's been out this 2018 when their fifth studio album LM5 was released but never have I ever came across this song by little Mix and I don't know why. Some people describe this song as the modern day version of "Independent Women" by Destiny's Child which you'll most likely agree on if you listen to the lyrics very carefully.

Best lyrics of the song

I don't need a man

If I'm loving you it's 'cause I can ('Cause I can)

I don't want your cash

I put my own rock on my hand

I put my own rock on my hand

I put my own rock on my hand (What?)

I don't need a man (Uh, uh)

If I'm loving you it's 'cause I can

"I put my own rock on my hand" is the phrase that's repeated constantly throughout the song but it gave me the idea of buying myself an engagement ring one day just so people know that I'm engaged to myself. Even when I have a ring one day from my significant other I will always be married to myself.

Listening to the song repeatedly over and over again whilst I was in the aftermath of my break up, just gave me the confidence to know that I don't have to be loved by someone else to love who I am. This also gave me the perfect thought of knowing that I'm mine before anyone else's and that should be celebrated by treating myself. That will start with putting a big rock on the fourth finger of my left hand. "Happiness" which is the fifth and final main song the for this playlist also discusses this subject matter of finally coming to terms with not needing a partner.

Not only does this song give you self loving lyrical content that you will need during your break up but it also makes you want to move your hips from side to side that you won't stop doing until the end of the song. Hence why this one of my absolute favourites tracks by Little Mix. Its gives you the confidence to make you feel good through the lyrics and the beat of the song that will never leave you feeling alone and miserable when Valentine's season comes around every year.

Main Song #5 Happiness

One of the last songs on the playlist which is "Happiness" and is the fifth track on their sixth studio Confetti that was released in November 2020.

This song pretty much sums ups the playlist itself of releasing the anger and annoyance of the break up and transforming it into happiness. Similar to "Shout Out To My Ex" there is nothing better than saying thank you to what your ex has given you but you've grown into a better person and realized you don't need a lover to fill the void of your happiness. Your happiness is within yourself and it's your job to manifest that feeling. No one else's.

Best Lyrics of the Song

You can't rain on my happiness

Yeah, sometimes tears fall, I must confess

But now, I'm standing right where I'm meant to be

I found the love, I found the love in me

Brand new evolution of me, ever since I let you go

Finally, I'm learning things I never knew before

This song is nothing but truthful about the experience your going through during a break up. All the drama and tears you swept away from the aftermath has turned into a good thing. "Brand new evolution of me, ever since I let you go" was the actual saying that shook off those final feelings I had with my ex months after we called it quits. It was the best feeling I had since our break up as I finally came to terms with the new women I've become and how much I evolved as a person since we called it off. It's an indescribable feeling that felt so good I eventually began to wake up everyday not worrying about his problems and had the opportunity to do things I couldn't do whilst I was with him.

So this song is more a less another reminder to understand that you will grow from the experience from your previous relationship and that 'thing' that you've learnt from your ex will bring you happiness. There couldn't be a better way to sum up the playlist than to have a song about growth and wisdom that you'll gain once the aftermath of the break up is over. So let people boast about their Valentine's gifts all over social media, and let celebrities show off their over the top Valentine's day experiences. Nothing can stop you from being content with not needed anyone. Being alone with yourself is the best kind of relationship that you will have ever be in and Little Mix will be there to support and give you all the happiness you need to be happy with yourself.

I also forgot to mention that "Happiness" will make you want to jump around in your bedroom like no one else is watching once the song begins to play. So be sure to wear your comfortable clothing whilst you dance around to this anthem.

Well that pretty much sums up, how you should be dealing with your break up during this love sick season. I know your reading this thinking how on earth are you ever going to get over your ex lover. But I need you to trust my advice and take the time to listen to the little Mix playlist I designed for you. The main five songs are the ones that I recommend listening to over and over again as they'll help you to push through and get back to being the amazing person you are. The other tracks that are listed on the playlist are also empowering songs to dance to whilst your fighting through the pain. Tracks include, "Break Up Song", "Confetti" and "Sweet Melody" which I know you'll love if your into dance-pop.

Remember you don't need to a partner to be loved on Valentine's day, you got yourself to love and that's all that matters. I love you for being you and I love you for reading so be sure to give this article a love heart.
