The Adventures of Restless Youth
The Novella series by A.X.Y Grace

How did I found out about this series!
I’ve been doing my bit for the indie book community by offering free reviews on Goodreads. So far, I have had a handful of authors reach out to me and share their work. Some have even offered to review my books in return. One of the authors that reached out to me was A.X.Y Grace with her series of novellas. Since it is a series, I decided to put it all together under one review, but I have reviewed them separately on Goodreads.
Once the author sent me a review copy of all these, I had realised I already had the second book of the series in my library. I must have been a free download not ago. I still have so many books on my tablet and book shelf I have yet to read. Some have been waiting for years. Thankfully, these books didn’t have to wait too long. It took me a couple of hours to read all three of them and I read them all in one sitting, one after the other.
What did I think about this book series?
What I really liked about this book is how the collections of narratives come together. I think my favourite arc out of the whole series was Lynette’s mother having cancer because of how close and personal it felt. Coincidently it is inspired by the author’s own mother as well. I also grew to be fond of Jennifer. By coincidence, I did a quiz about which character you are and I got Jennifer.
It felt like a book inspired by personal experiance and the author shows a lot of knowledge in the stuff that she is writing about as the work included it’s of references and appendixes to help us keep track with all the characters. They are quick and easy to read.
Sometimes I got a bit lost with the narrative and had to go back and reread some stuff as I got confused, but I did enjoy reading this series of novellas because the characters felt like human beings.
How do I feel about The Adventures of Restless Youth
I did get an 80’s vibe with the setting, even though it was set in the 90‘s. Even though I don’t like the look of the original covers, I think it’s clear that the author has put a lot of effort into this series with the Wordpress site, the quiz and all the character profiles. I think the updated covers look much better and show the soul of the work more. It’s a nice touch. With the right audience, this could easily be loved in a niche crowd.
The target audience for this is between 10-18, whilst I am out of this age range, I think younger readers would like it a lot and appreciate it and they could find a character they could relate to. I could see it as something people could about in the classroom because everybody has their own story to tell.
Would I reccomend this book series to other readers?
Many may be put off by the mockumentary style, constant change in point of view and the narrative, but I think in the end it works in the author’s favour because it shows us the characters in the way that author wants us to see them. I don’t think I’ve ever read a series like this before. I don’t think it’s going to be everybody’s cup of tea. But if you like exploring how a string of bad luck shapes the lives of a group of friends, and how if effects them growing into adulthood, then I think you might enjoy this series.
